“Drink,” Ghost muttered, his voice rough. “Before I start thinking too much.”
Luca’s smile flickered, soft, almost grateful. He took the glass and raised it. “To old ghosts?”
“To staying alive long enough to bury them,” Ghost replied.
They clinked glasses and drank. The whiskey burned on the way down, sweet and fierce. Luca leaned back against the wall, exhaling slow.
Ghost sat beside him on the edge of the bed, shoulders barely touching, both of them staring at nothing for a while.
