"Wait. I need to know. Why did, uhm, whatever, carelessly pick me?" "Go back." The woman wasn't paying her any attention. She kept on plucking cowries and attaching them to her head. "What is he? Oh, don't answer that one. He's a ghost. I know that. Why is he in that state? No, no, why can I see him? Why can l feel his touch, ghosts can't do that, can they? What does he need me for?" The old woman stopped her scaly hands from further movements and stared directly at Geneva through her foggy eyes that obviously saw clearly.

"Is this Ghost when she was a puppy?" Danica asks. Ghost jumps up at the mention of her name. Danica is looking at the picture frames in the hallway. "Yeah, that's what she looked like when Jay brought her home. She's four now," I nod. Ghost runs down the stairs and starts to bark wanting to go outside. The sound of her bark makes Danica jumpy. Her eyes flare a deep almost red amber. The eyes of a wolf who's familiar with killing. "You'll get used to it,"

Ghost’s fingers flew across the keyboard, screens reflecting off his glasses in rapid flashes of blue and white. Every camera feed in the city was up. Every traffic cam. Every toll booth. Every intersection. And none of it was enough. “She’s in a black sedan,” Ghost muttered. “Tinted windows. No plates. They knew what they were doing.” I paced behind him, chest tight, hands shaking. I couldn’t sit. Couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think.

The laboratory didn’t just smell of chemicals; it tasted of ancient rot and artificial lightning. As the Ghost Wolves—those twitching, violet-veined abominations of my father’s desperate making—scrambled out of their shattered glass coffins, the temperature in the room plummeted. They didn’t move like the wolves of the Roux pack. There was no grace in their limbs, no ancestral intelligence in their eyes. They moved with a jerky, stop-motion horror, their bones snapping and resetting with every lunging step, as if their bodies were rejecting the very muscles that drove them forward.

It was a distorted reflection of the original Spire, its chimneys belching black smoke into the vacuum. Inside the Ghost-Engine, the corridors were filled with the whispers of the "First-Gens." Audrey saw the faces of those who had died in the North, their eyes filled with a perpetual, icy fear. She didn't turn away. She walked into the "Heart-of-the-Furnace," where the "Core-Nightmare" was located. It was a massive, pulsing engine of "Pure-Sorrow."

The greenish-blue glow was a little off, but nearly every single window was wide open! The frost wraith, Chloe, floated to the front. Her little face was wrinkled with worry. The Hungry Dead clutched his precious empty bowl. His drool threatened to spill from the corners of his mouth, but his eyes were full of concern. The banshee had stopped crying, sniffing and staring upward. The Poltergeist was holding some random rusty pipe, looking ready to charge up and tear the building apart… There were also the Hanged Ghost, Shadow Sneak, Pipe Phantom…

Hugo said, turning to Dawn and Valerie, his eyes staying on Dawn. However, the latter didn’t think much of it. Are ghosts really that scary? For a person who has died once and was technically a soul that replaced someone else’s, would she still be afraid of ghosts? At the moment, she was bored. As they were walking, they caught up with Jace’s group. “What is it? Did you see something?” Ashlyn asked. “Yeah.. Look up. Don’t you see a shadow? Look!
