I began to chant as I felt the blood of Ares mixing with my own until I could feel his power coursing through my veins. I lift my hand and outstretched it until my long black fingernail was technically touching the barrier around the clearing. I watch as the tip of my nails began to bend until it melt. I smirked before retracting my hand. "Ester darling, I see you are not happy that I am visiting you today." I spoke and summoned one of my crows. This one name was Ghost, he had a liking for lost souls that lingered on earth.He could spot them quickly, something I have used him for occasionally when I want to suck some of the souls power. There is nothing more delicious than a wandering soul.

I shrug at Ghost as the Collector snaps up at him. “What group am I?” I ask Ghost; he doesn’t look back at the computer, which means he’s already looked for the information. I can’t say I blame him; I’d want every bit of information I can get if I were travelling with someone like me. "E," Ghost says flatly. “What the fuck is group E and why is Elle in it?” Ghost snarls down at him; his eyes change to a flat red colour, making him look like a demon, when he looks at me, his eyes have returned to normal. I wonder if his eyes going red are like when Gideon’s turn yellow.

“Do not look away, baby.” I held his stare through the mirror, shooting him a glare. He gave his shoulders a reluctant shrug. “That’s good, baby. Keep your eyes open." He adulated, two fingers easing into my pussy. I let out a gasp, attempting to throw my head back. I couldn’t. Ghost’s hand was around my neck before I could, his grip tight, holding my head forward. "Keep your fucking eyes open," he groaned. "I want you to see how perfect you are, how perfect you are in my arms."

He looked around from the gate of the graveyard and caught sight of a figure moving in the shadows. “Chloe…” he started. Chloe turned around quickly at his voice. “What is the matter?” Syke shook his head in the negative. The figure had disappeared as soon as it had come. Or was he seeing things? He couldn’t tell for sure but he knew that whatever the case was, it was going to be a miracle if they got back to Calistè whole and hearty. “No one’s going to hurt you,” Chloe laughed. “Always remember, Ghosts don’t exist.”

"Papa? Papa, can you hear me?" He opens his eyes slowly, with difficulty, as if his eyelids weighed tons, as if it required a superhuman effort to tear his gaze from the darkness where he has been floating for so long. His pupils are cloudy, uncertain; they search without finding, they grope in the light, but when they finally settle on me, I see something ignite deep within—a glimmer, a consciousness, a spark that was not there yesterday or the day before or any of those days when I came to speak to a ghost.

The necklace burned in her palm. But she clasped it around her neck anyway. The chain closed like it belonged. The charm pulsed. And then… her eyes shifted. Not the glowing-amber of rage. Not the flickering gold of instinct. They turned pure. Gold. Like sunlight made flesh. No pupil. No iris. Just light. She gasped. Her body arched forward. From the graves around her, the dirt cracked. Hands burst free. Bone and ghost and vapor. Wolves without form. The Hollowborn.

Then I saw them. Figures emerged from the shadows. I rubbed my eyes and squinted, perhaps I was seeing wrong. Alpha Sean, the room, everything was gone. The figures were translucent and pale, their eyes were hollow and glowing faintly blue. They surrounded me. I was in the middle of a sea of ghosts, dressed in tattered dresses, cloaks, and crowns.

It resembled heat haze over a frozen pond. Roric raised his lance, but Kael gestured for him to wait. "Don't waste the charge." Out of the gray mist emerged a wolf. But it wasn't an ordinary wolf; it was a Ghost-Packer. It stood nearly seven feet tall, made of a translucent, oily smoke that shifted and swirled. Instead of eyes, it had two hollow cavities filled with flickering violet static-the remnants of a soul deleted by Liora's "Link," yet refusing to leave the physical plane.

His eyes went wide, and he started grabbing at his neck, frantically trying to breathe. Spider moved forward, trying to help him. I wished there were a spider as large as the web on his hand, one that could bite him and leave him dead on the ground. Suddenly, he cried out, flinging his hand around, shouting about pinchers as big as teeth. He all but forgot Snake was still struggling to breathe. Ghost was next. I imagined him as pale and see-through as the name I’d given him. When he reached for Snake, his hands passed straight through him. He tried again and again, the same result each time. There was genuine fear on his face when he turned to me.

The sympathy that had filled the room disappeared. Now people looked at Richard with suspicion. Disgust. Unease. "No..." Richard's eyes turned red. "No. Selena... you're joking, right?" His voice cracked. "That's impossible. Chloe can't be dead. "Please. Listen to me. It's not what you think." For the first time, there was something in his eyes I had never seen before. Desperation. And regret.
