Ghost In Library Novels & Stories

The Invisible Man. The librarian smiled. “Oh, yes,” she chuckled. “For Halloween, you know.” I thought of James West out for a stroll at midnight in the fog. “You wouldn’t happen to have anything in that index about an old TV show? Saturday Nightmares?” She pursed her lips slightly and walked out from behind the desk to a large wooden cabinet full of small drawers. She glanced at her watch, then pulled out one of the drawers and shuffled through the tiny cards inside, pausing once to pull out a card, then another a few seconds later.

“What did you say?” “It was a code. 18-L-3-20,” I recited from memory. “I found the book in your library. Shakespeare. On the page the code led to, there was a pinprick, a tiny hole through a single word.” I took a shaky breath, finally giving the ghost a name. “The word was ‘betrayal’.”

“God, you don’t deserve to be here. But I can’t help you, Mom. I can’t even help myself.” She stared at me like I had just spoken another language ... Then she stood up and began pacing, her hands flying to her head. “That’s impossible. What happened to everything you got from Echo?” “Everything is still there,” I said, voice cracking. “But I can’t access any of it. The house is haunted, Mom. There’s a ghost in that house. I can’t stay there.” She let out a short... humorless laugh. “Ghost? Come on, Laura, don’t be ridiculous. There’s no such thing.”

"I know about the Black Site. And I know you were the one who told Lorenzo to trigger the Blood Clause. You didn't save me from the fire, Dante. You were the match." I paused, leaning my head against the cold cell wall. "You told me ghosts aren't real. Well, you were right. Because the girl who trusted you is dead. You killed her in that quarry. Now, all that’s left is The Ghost. And a ghost doesn't stay in a cage." I slammed the laptop shut, killing the signal. Less than thirty seconds later, I heard the heavy thud of boots in the hallway. The electronic lock hissed, and the door swung open so hard it hit the wall.

Chapter Seventeen: The Storm Ian’s heart hammered against his ribs as he stood in the quiet corner of the library. He wasn’t here for books. He was here to meet a ghost…an anonymous source who claimed to have the truth. A whisper cut through the silence from the other side of the shelf. “Hey, you’re here on time.” Ian’s breath hitched. “I’m here.” “I’m going to slip it through the books and leave,” the voice hissed, lower now.

Their gazes settled on me like I had gone a bit off, running around aimlessly. I looked awful. I knew they were probably thinking I had gone mad, searching the halls for someone who wasn't there. It hadn't been them who saw a weird-looking man scan them like a trophy he had just won. It seemed everything was starting to haunt me since dinner last night. Without any luck, I walked to the library in search of answers and the only one who could provide them. The large door of the library was wide open for anyone. Its large oak wood was the rarest in the pack. Some people said it could be used to kill witches, although it was not proven.

I had no choice, so I dug through every gift Zoe had ever given me, but I found nothing. Just when I was about to give up, I shook a pillow, and a tiny paper figure floated out. Its face was drawn to resemble Lucas, and his birth details were written on the back! The fortune teller exclaimed, “That’s it! The lock and the paper figure work together, and since you've touched the lock, the effect on you is stronger. Luckily, you found it early.” I broke out in a cold sweat. That same day, I slipped the paper figure under Miles’ pillow and instructed my parents to watch him while he slept.

In an abandoned warehouse, my mother was tied up in the middle of the open floor, her body covered in bloody slash marks. She looked up at the woman before her, her face twisted in pain. "Adeline... I'm your mother-in-law. How could you do this to me?" Adeline Malone paused mid-motion while touching up her makeup. A cold smirk curved her red lips, her beautiful face dripping with contempt. "Then tell your selfish son to crawl out of hiding. Do that, and I'll let the rest of you go."

Soon enough, she was lying on the floor, lifeless in the pool of her strangely coughed out blood. Just at that moment, Chloe walked in, immediately pausing at sight ahead. She squinted and walked a few steps forward before realizing what she was looking at was the lifeless body of the school's librarian. She screamed immediately and ran back out. Just after she ran out, Isa came back running with wide eyes. Cole paused the video there. "Why'd you come back?" Cole started. She looked up at him, "I hadn't gotten far. Like I told you earlier, I was going to get her water and so when I heard a scream coming from the direction of the library, I got a little scared."
