I turned to see Spider approaching, his wiry frame moving with the ease of someone who had long ago accepted the chaos of this line of work. His tactical gear was smeared with dirt and blood, and his usually cocky smirk was replaced with something quieter.
“You look like you got run over by a truck,” he said, crouching beside me.
“Feeling’s mutual,” I replied dryly, though my voice lacked its usual sharpness.
Spider leaned back on his heels, his dark eyes scanning the scene. “Hell of a mess, huh?”
