So I went.” ​David’s eyes flare with sudden anger. “You went to an uncleared location alone after a tripwire blast? Are you insane?” ​“I kept a live comm link open to Lucia,” Eli counters smoothly. “When I walked inside Warehouse 14, Ghost was already waiting for me.”

He picked up on the third ring. “I didn’t expect to hear from you again so soon,” he said. “I need more.” “More what?” “Options.” There was a pause. “You sound scared.” I swallowed. “I am.” He gave me two names. One was a ghost who specialized in sabotages like quiet explosions, electrical interference, GPS distortion. The other was someone who could get to Silas without triggering a war. A middleman. Not tied to either family. But expensive. “I can only call in one,” I said.

Silas whispered, disappearing into a blur of speed. ​Elara closed her eyes. At first, there was only darkness. Then, she felt it, the vibration of a footstep, the scent of Silas’s cologne, the shift in the wind.
