Muttering a curse, I dropped the phone back onto the table.
“I’m surprised you didn’t dial the police.” The voice came from above, smooth and rich, sending a wave of shivers through me none of them unpleasant.
I turned sharply and looked up the staircase. Theron Lockhart stood at the top, his hair still damp, as if fresh from the shower. A loose V-neck sweatshirt clung to his torso, and faded jeans hung low on his hips. Somehow, this undone, casual version of him was more dangerous than ever.
He descended slowly, his eyes locked on mine, a faint smirk curving his lips. “So? Why didn’t you?”
