"I'm not dropping this whole scenario about being the best you've ever had, so you may as well tell me the story... besides, by your body language, I'm assuming I'm not going to get many more dates." I snorted. "That's highly doubtful." "Take off your glasses." "Huh?" He reached for my glasses and slid them off, setting them on the table with more care than I thought him capable of. "There, that's better. I want to see your eyes." "But I can't even focus on you!" "Your eyes are huge." Shame washed over me as I reached for my glasses but his hand covered mine, holding it against the table. "It was a compliment."

I was puzzled—and flustered, because Rum was scrutinizing my face for flaws, and I felt like I had many because I had no time for a meticulous skincare routine. "Contact lens." Rum concluded in the tone of a doctor giving his diagnosis. I blinked furiously. Contact… lens? "You need to ditch those fugly glasses—." "No!" I pushed at him and stood. He swiftly followed suit and grabbed my wrists to stop me from going anywhere. "Did your parents get you those glasses?" "No," I replied almost instantly. "Excellent! They've got no sentimental value. You can lose them—." He tried to take them off me. But I swayed my face back, away from his hands. "No, Rum! Stop it. I need these glasses to see!"

I found one of the servant's small caps, this won't do. I sat back sprawled on the bare floor. How do I get past those guards outside, God? I'm running out of time. I was already at my crossroad. My eyes fell on broken pair of eyeglasses on the floor some inches away from my grasp. I stretch my hands and took it, it looks like a medicated eyeglass, I find a way to fix the glass back into the holes and it fitted it perfectly. I put them on, I had no mirror with me but I hoped I was not recognizable in them.

DEA It was my fault. I should have paid attention and seen exactly where I was walking. Then again, I would have been able to see better if I knew where my damn glasses were. I was in a rush and my mind was so preoccupied that I had left my apartment without them. It was for that very reason I always kept a spare set in my handbag. One could tell this wasn't my first time displacing my glasses. You'd think I would have learned my lesson considering I had worn them for the majority of my life. I thought getting contact lenses would help my cause but they only made things worse. They were a pain to put in and take out—but beauty was pain and I, apparently, liked to suffer.

I say after we remembered one time when we all went out to a club and ran away before we caused a fight. He pours me more coke and adds a slice more of lemon. "Indeed, that would be a crazy fun idea. But I thought you were avoiding those kinds of places," He points out as he looks at me. "You have become nerdier." I giggle and adjust my glasses, then remove them. "I only wear them because my eyes get tired after being in front of computers so much when I am working with some school papers, and reading for an absurd amount of time," I laugh about it myself. "I could get rid of them and still see perfectly fine. But it also works as a defense mechanism; idiots don't come after smarty girls." I

His hand left my back and he slowly removed his glasses. Hell. I didn't think I could breathe again. His eyes were crystal blue. No, green. I sucked in a breath as the colors captivated me. They were both. One eye blue and the other green. He wiped tears from my cheek with one finger as I stared in amazement. "Can I put my glasses back on?" Another slight grin came with the question. No he wasn't model material good looking, but his eyes were stunning. "Why would you cover those?" God, they were beautiful.

Without them, I’m afraid my powers could spiral out of control, and…I don’t even want to imagine what could happen.” “I like your glasses,” Nate complimented. “They suit you.” His words made my lips curl into a wide smile. No one had ever said they liked my glasses. “I thought these glasses would make me less of a freak,” I added. “But whenever people tease me, they somehow always bring up my glasses.” I gave Kylan a side-eye, and his expression softened. He glanced away, as if he couldn’t bear to look at me. I couldn’t help but wonder if the weight of his teasing was finally sinking in. I sure hoped

Sorry,” I laughed nervously, realizing how ridiculous I sounded. “So, you lost your glasses, your shoes, and your brain too?” “Yes,” I said quickly. “No! I mean, not literally, of course, but yeah, I lost my glasses. Not my shoes or anything else. I actually left my shoes inside, and someone stole them.” They were brainless, desperate lies, but I couldn't back out now. I had to commit.
