Elara slowly reached inside the dark paper. She pulled out a single, heavily bruised white lily stem. The flower head had been violently crushed, its white petals torn and smeared with dark red residue. As she lifted the broken stem into the air, a sharp, intoxicating scent wafted through the room. It was not the scent of fresh flowers. It was a thick, heavy, unmistakable fragrance of French amber, crushed orchids, and rare musk—the exact, custom-blended Rouge Vane perfume that Lydia had worn every single day of her adult life.

lily laughed. when Zoe heard what lily said, she raised her eyes and said, "who said I am almost done." she was just trying to get Elsa into trouble. lily's hand was in midway, and she was embarrassed by Zoe's actions. --- Preparations and Promises Baylee spent the morning with Melody and Lilly, picking out flowers and herbs for the ceremony. “Moon lilies for purity,” Melody said, arranging white petals along a basket, “and wolfsbane for strength.” “Isn’t wolfsbane poisonous?” Baylee asked, wary. “Only if you eat it,” Melody said cheerfully. “Or set it on fire.” Baylee laughed. “Remind me to keep you away from the bonfire.” Across the room, Lilly rocked baby Lacey, humming softly. The child’s moon-shaped mark glowed faintly in the daylight.

“I think you two can handle yourselves without me.” She handed Magnolia a flask. “Drink.” After a few gulps, Laya gave it to Killian to do the same. “So now what—” the words died in Magnolia’s throat when her voice changed into a deeper and more manly one. “Oh Gods,” she mumbled. She looked at her hands, they were huge and rough. “Did I really need this spell as well?” Killian looked annoyed. “Unless you want your face to end up on posters on every wall in town, then yes.” Laya spat. “Now go, remember that you only have half an hour.”

Lily’s glitter. I shut my eyes again, ease slipping into my shoulders. Today was supposed to be her orientation at the atelier. I tried to picture her in my head, how she may have dressed. Would she have gone with her red gloss or opted for something more subtle? I snorted to myself. Lily didn’t do subtle anymore. She probably walked in there with the largest beaded hat she owned and a long cape to match. Did she smell like peaches or lavender or roses today. Arielle loved flowers even more than Lily did. Whenever she came to our house she would drag Carter and I to the garden. We’d stay there for hours.

I've never bought flowers for a girl before, so I chose Anemone, Camellia, Gladiolus, Bougainvillea, Cyclamen, Peonies, Jupiter Dahlia, and Purple Gomphrena. Basically, a mix of pink and purple flowers I've never seen before. I had the woman who sold them to me sprinkle silver and gold glitter all over the flowers to make them look even better. I told her to do that to all of the flowers I bought, like how some flowers have glitter on them. When she looks up at the flowers, her eyes get a little bigger. She takes them from my hand hesitantly and looks at them with a small smile on her lips. "Thank you." She says in a quiet voice as she puts them on her lap.

She taps the cover and slides it across the table towards Eva. “These are Gladioli and Calla lilies, but I’d also like to include some herbs in with the flowers. Maybe sage and rosemary? And possibly some ferns for contrast. I know it’s an odd bouquet.” Eva looks at her oddly, but nods and takes more notes. She hums, “Colours for the gladioli and lilies?” Celine hums, “White for both, I think.” Eva makes more notes, nodding as she does,

“I appreciate it.” “Should I send someone to come and take them so that here can be tidy?” Lily asked. I quickly rejected the idea, not wanting to disturb the divine remnants. “They look different. I have never seen this kind of petals and flowers before,” she said, touching one of them gently. That was true. One bunch was filled with various colors, and they seemed to shimmer as if they held their own light. “Did you just see that? It just glowed. Am I seeing things?” she said, pointing towards the flowers in the corner, her voice tinged with disbelief and excitement.

I wished that wasn’t the case. “I don’t know,” I finally managed. Lily said nothing for some time, and when I glanced over at her, I saw that she was no longer looking at me; she was looking at a nearby outcrop of glowing flowers. Seeing the longing in her gaze, I walked over and plucked one for her. But the flower’s glow died out almost as soon as the stem was cut.

Its petals shimmered with an otherworldly iridescence, shifting between shades of silver and pale blue as if capturing the very essence of moonlight. Lilly's heart raced as she realised what she was looking at. Moon Roses, the legendary flower of the Moon Goddess herself, were only meant to bloom once in a lifetime, but now a second one had appeared in front of her. At least while she wasn’t in a trance at first, and this one was like the first one, not like the three that everyone thought might be some kind of countdown.
