Melanie's eyes flashed with anger, and suddenly she clutched her stomach while exclaiming, "My stomach... Is the baby coming?!" Henry's face twisted in sudden panic, and he swept Melanie into his arms, bolting for the door. As he rushed by, Melanie's hand shot out, gripping my arm with a fierce tug. I stumbled, crashing to the ground as Wren's gasp echoed in my ears. Pain washed over me, turning my face ghostly pale. Wren, shaking, lifted me up, her voice breaking as she called for a doctor. Through the blur, I caught Henry hesitating for a split second, but then, he was gone, not once looking back.

The shadows of the trees loomed tall and dark, whispering with the wind as though they held secrets of their own. “Just over this hill,” George instructed, picking up the pace. “The cabin will be on the other side.” As they crested the slope, the cabin came into view—a modest structure framed by tall pines, with a weathered roof and a faint glow flickering through the windows. It looked inviting in the midst of the storm, a beacon amidst the uncertainty of their lives.

The sky grew lighter, and humans would leave their fortress searching for the weapon. Feeling the urgency, the hobgoblin picked up his pace and told the magicians to start tracing the airflow. They were looking for any caves in the area with mining activity. Open caves were too obvious. Dwarves were cautious creatures. They would conceal the caves inside a mountain, but even so, they could not conceal all the unusual airflow that went into tiny cracks. After nearly an hour of investigating unusual airflow in mountain cracks, they found a green and mossy stone slab concealing a rather small entrance. It was smaller than entrances humans made and not tall enough for the hobgoblin to go through

I walk up to the fox and it again rubs against my chest, walks away down the tunnel, then disappears. “Alright, down the creepy tunnel we go. Looks like we are on our own from here,” I tell Gabriel. “Everyone be on alert, I can feel the presence of several witches and warlocks,” says Dimitri. We continue down the cave. Water is dripping from stalagmite on the ceiling. “Furtim,” whispers Gabriel. I no longer hear our footsteps. Besides the water dripping it’s silent. “Derek look up,” says Mark. I look up and see sleeping bats everywhere. We really don’t want them to get startled, they may end up alerting our presence.

Chapter 17: Echoes in the Labyrinth The cavern entrance seemed to shrink behind them as Evie and Liam followed the hulking guardian deeper into the labyrinth. The blue light emanating from the Wellspring faded, replaced by the familiar bioluminescent glow of the fungi clinging to the cavern walls. A sense of unease settled in Evie's stomach. They were venturing further into the heart of Aethel than anyone had ever dared before, relying on a creature whose loyalties remained a mystery.

We follow behind. A hidden cave lies behind the water, with shimmering crystals all around the entrance. She manages to stay completely dry, while Gabe and I’s coats are both soaked. There were no windows in here, the only source of light were glowing crystals placed around the cave. She leads us to the end of the cave, before pulling on a purple crystal. The ground starts to shake as the cave opens up more, revealing rows and rows of bookshelves. How will she ever find the spell she needs in this abundance of books?

Germaine exclaimed, eying the creatures. They passed through halls each carved with elaborate skill. Some were plain, others lined with finely carved murals depicting goblin life or statues of prominent figures. On the way, Germaine was introduced to so many goblins, she lost count. Some goblins they passed, going about their business, stopped, setting baskets on the ground to gaze at them, wide-eyed. The shock of their arrival swept through the tunnel. One hall stood out more than others - an underground market - with stalls for trading goods. Artificial light permeated the space, casting everything in a yellow and orange ambiance. The smells of food cooking on makeshift fires left Germaine

They all stood there hovering, the goblins who were at the front had seen this and stopped, but the ones behind who could not see only carried on walking forwards and this all lead to the wave of goblins to continue to advance. Taking a small deep breath, Noah released his earthen spikes. They all tore across the cave and smashed into the goblins cutting through the first few lines and sending many more flying away. He did not stop there though and quickly conjured up more and more. The spikes constantly screech through the air and tear through the screeching goblins.
