His swollen left eye flicked open, his cracked lips twitched with some kind of internal satisfaction.
“I’m not afraid of dying,” he whispered.
“But you’re afraid of pain,” I replied, standing. “Which is a shame, because you’re going to feel a lot more of it.”
I nodded once at Jiro, who handed me a long, narrow blade.
“I’ll give you one more chance,” I said, kneeling again. “Who are you working for?”
He spat at my feet.
Disappointing.
“Burn it all down,” he hissed, eyes gleaming through the blood. “You can’t hide forever.”
