Then his eyes started to flicker—gold of my compulsion to a dark red—and he screamed like a creature that had been doused in hot, boiling oil. The high-pitched sound was loud enough to cut through the very fiber of one's sanity. It was guttural and utterly gut-wrenching. My guts recoiled instinctively. Gilles is at my side in an instant. “Shit! What the hell is going on now?” he gritted, his face twisting with a scowl and a look of dread, mingled with disgust. My hands were fists inside my pockets, my blood stewing on the inside but I reined in my composure, my head tipping back a bit.

I cut the call and rub the back of my neck. “Shut up. What’s that sound?” Ghost whispers. “What sound?” I listen more carefully. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Swagga backing up and his fur bristles. His low growl floats through the air, making everyone look more uncomfortable. The sound of ice cubes clinks in the distance. It turns into ice crackling, then escalates to the higher pitch of glass breaking into spiderwebs. “EVERYONE GET BACK!”

I said, feigning innocence. I glanced around after speaking. It was true. There wasn't a single living person in sight, but ghosts were everywhere. "This place is cursed!" Charlotte snapped. "I can't even stop. The moment I even think about it, it feels like needles are piercing my hands." Even as she spoke, her hands kept moving. Fear flickered across her face at the scene before her. Lights came back on, marking the change of scene as Calypso was seen again outside the carnival, waiting, peering and being sensitive to any feeling or noises. Sounds heard slowly turned to creepy noises. The chips of crickets and the croak of frogs. Other unusual sounds played in as clucks, ribbit and grunts were heard. The atmosphere as felt suddenly changed. The eerie ambience of something strange was felt. Everywhere suddenly went ghost silent and midnight black. "Calypso!" A voice called out in the form of a whisper.

The sound that tore through the morning silence was not a laugh, nor a whisper, nor the familiar, grim sounds of our daily survival. It was a scream. It was a high, thin, wire of pure, unadulterated terror, so sharp it seemed to slice through the very walls of our condo. It wasn't the guttural roar of an Infected; this was a human sound, born of a shock so profound it could only be expressed in a single, piercing note of absolute horror.

He sang like a heavenly poem. all words were like a deadly screech in Skylar's ear. Then it all went quiet. The silence was even more agonizing. The silver beast's claws and gleaming teeth ripped into the creature like a knife through butter, severed body parts flying through the air around them. Freya would have felt pity for the Anomaly, if the thing hadn't nearly torn her limb from limb just a moment ago.

She was already getting some awful vibes back then and now this happened. "Man! I got chills." Alex pulled her jacket from one of her hands while carrying her phone on the other. She switched on her phone's flashlight and showed the goosebumps she just got. "Felix boi! Do you see that? Look! Look!" She quickly added, bringing forth her hand towards him. "I can see it, Sister Alex," he answered back softly. Even though Felix wasn't frightened at all, he couldn't help but agree that he did get some cold creeps when he heard that sound. In his case, it wasn't because of the word it said but because of the voice it had.
