When I wake up again, I feel much better. It’s clearly past noon. I must’ve been sleeping for hours. A glass of lemon juice sits on the bedside table—Mrs. Smith must have left it earlier. I drink every drop before getting out of bed. My phone is on the table, but I don’t touch it. I head downstairs. The living room is empty. Pookie is eating from his bowl.
