She doubted a zombie would be able to locate her there, even an advanced zombie. One of the things about zombies that stayed with them, no matter how much of their thinking and motor skills returned was the fact that they had poor night vision, depth perception, and were color blind. Those factors went in her favor since the opening to the root cellar was beneath a very realistic looking shrub that was attached to the trap door. Its coloring varied from those it was amongst only by the slightest degree and, unless you ran your hand over it, you’d never guess it wasn’t real. Combine that to the fact that it was nighttime, and she felt safe in her selection of hiding places.

Mom hesitated. "Why don't we go outside and see for ourselves?" Giselle immediately blocked her. "No, the streets are full of zombies. If you get bitten, there's no surviving it!" They spent another two days holed up inside, and then the debt collectors finally showed. Giselle had chosen a front door fit for a zombie apocalypse. It was so sturdy that no matter what the collectors tried, they couldn't break in. All they could do was curse and walk away.

She is intelligent and curious about the world, everything seems to baffle her, and the way she twitches her nose whenever she is upset with me is hilarious. After this nightmare of today is over, I will put my claim on her and fuck her brains out. Those doe-eyes will know who they belong to in a matter of seconds. Cautiously, I take a step forward, only to stop when I hear Giovani grunting behind me; he sounds pissed off. "I think they finally have managed to close the gates.
