My Aquatic Mate
The water is rising, nearly to my chest.
Suddenly, my hair turns white, and my bruises start to heal. Maybe I was meant to die, but not today.
"ANGELIQUE," a faint voice calls me; it’s my grandmother.
This old woman never seems to rest; she’s always on my head.
"Yes, Grandma?" I respond.
"You need to push the water back to where it’s coming from," she says. I roll my eyes inwardly.
"Have you lost your mind?" I ask in disbelief.
"No, but you must push the water back, or both your life and your brother’s will be at risk."
