"The key to making a good sandcastle, you see, is mixing the right amount of water with the right amount of sand. Too much sand, your castle crumbles. Too much water, your castle basically melts."
"Right," I said, my mind returning to the present.
"I used to make the best sandcastles when I was a kid. I won a few contests."
"There were contests?" I laughed.
"Yeah there were contests. I have, like, six sand dollars with 'first place' written on them in sharpie signifying my victories. I was the one to beat, man. I didn't just make sandcastles, you see. I made sand fortresses. Sand palaces."
