He folded the paper and placed it back on the desk. He would return someday, eventually. But for now, he stayed He craved the days of his return, not because he missed Gravenport. Not because he craved power. But because something was unfinished. Dante didn’t leave. He stayed. He fought. And he won. But something in him broke. The syndicate war in Dellwire lasted six months. By the end of it, Dante had buried more men than he cared to count. He stopped journaling. Stopped riding. Stopped thinking about Gabrielle Wren.

I was wearing a red bikini under my short dress. “The sand feels so nice on my feet, Nick. Oh, I love it here!” I tugged him closer to the water. I noticed he wasn’t moving. I followed his gaze. He saw Rich and Jessica, laughing and happily building a sandcastle together. “Ugh, I have to build it again! The waves keep ruining my castle,” Jessica said, laughing. “There has to be a king in the castle to keep it standing. Look at mine,” Rich replied. “Haha! Is that even real, Rich?” Jessica said, giggling.

Bill’s POV The sand is warm beneath me, even as the day starts to cool. Serena’s hand is in mine, her fingers soft and familiar, like they were always meant to fit there. Collin is a few feet away, crouched in the sand and completely in his own world. He’s got a bucket in one hand and a tiny shovel in the other, babbling to himself as he builds a lopsided sandcastle. Every so often, he looks back at us, grinning like he’s waiting for us to applaud his work. We do, of course. Every time.

Breakfast was also relaxed, eaten on the veranda with seagulls screaming in the distance. James built massive sandcastles every afternoon, every one of them bigger and more detailed than the previous one. Luke helped dig moats as Amiriam wandered about searching for shells to use to decorate the towers. One afternoon, as the sun dipped low, James looked up from his half-finished fortress. "Do you believe that castles never end?" Luke shook his head. "Not the sand castles. The tide comes back." James frowned. "That is kind of sad." "It only is sad if you don't build another," Luke replied.

Rhys held my hand on the gear shift, squeezing it now and then. At the beach, Finn ran wild. Rhys chased him through the waves while I sat on a towel, watching them with a full heart. This… this was everything I needed. Later, we built a sandcastle together, a lopsided, messy one, but it was ours. Rhys drew a little flag on top with a stick and carved “FAMILY” in the sand. We took pictures. We laughed until our stomachs hurt. Likewise, we buried Rhys up to his neck, and Finn added seashells to decorate his “sand armor.”

Mrs Sprocket somehow worked out that something will happen to Belle Rose when they are at the castle, and she got a strange feeling that Belle Rose's dream last night will come true. Belle Rose was allowed to take the book about the castle to visit back to Mrs Sprocket's house and carry on research in her own time. The school finished, and Belle Rose left with Mrs Sprocket as they head towards Mrs Sprocket's home. Mrs Sprocket allowed Belle Rose to use the dining table to carry on with her research about the castle that they are going to for the school trip, and she got some drinks for her and Belle Rose. Belle Rose wrote 6 pages of the history of the castle, and she drew the castle thrice.

He had updates of Albert - always - as he had on the whole of Highlands. He bathed in the glory of that, counting the minute and hours. GRACE Sydney nodded her head vigorously before skipping away with her bucket and spades to build that sand castle. The smirk on Silas' face morphed into a cheesy grin. Rays of sunlight bounced of his white teeth and for a second, he almost looked like an anime character with twinkling teeth.

Her laughter drifted on the wind as she spun in circles, arms outstretched like wings. “Wait for me!” she shouted behind her. Ava and Alex followed, hand in hand, boots crunching against shells and pebbles. Pearl chased waves, squealing as the cold surf bit at her ankles. She built a crooked sandcastle with her bare hands, planting a broken piece of driftwood at the top like a flag. Ava helped shape a moat while Alex carved windows with a stick. For a moment, it was just a family on a beach, no aliases, no syndicates, no ghosts.
