Liam corrected, and the weight of his words hung like a dark cloud.
A memory lanced through Jenifer’s mind, sharp and unforgiving: Zayla, hair slick with rain, eyes wide in fear, had once asked what happened to the lost dragons who never returned. “They’re still out there,” Jenifer had said, “somewhere only legends can suffer.”
She turned her gaze back to the walls. Legends. Hurting.
“So this is an archive,” Alex stated, his voice strained, “or a graveyard.”
