Michelle whispered. I nodded, though doubt flickered in my chest. My father had always said the safest places never looked safe at all. Inside, the shack was barely larger than a toolshed. Dust coated the floor, and the walls were bare—until I noticed a metal hatch tucked against the back wall. I pulled it open, revealing a narrow staircase descending straight into darkness. We climbed down carefully, step by step. The air grew colder with every foot, thick with the smell of old steel and earth. As soon as both of us reached the bottom, the hatch above us slammed shut.

Mike backed into the house and was dismayed when Dana followed him inside "Whoa, this place is spooky!" Dana looked around at the furniture, which was still covered with white sheets. The servants left to perform my orders while I continued with my brooding, trying to decode the mystery of the shadow that materialized in my room last night.
