And then came the scream. It started as a low, guttural sound, clawing its way up from deep inside her. A scream born of regret, fear, anger, and longing, all tangled into one raw, human cry. It ripped through the room, through the hallways of the estate, bouncing off the walls like thunder. “LUCIEN!” she shouted, her voice cracking, rising higher and higher until it seemed like it could split the very air around her.

I’m alone. The tiny shred of composure snaps. The scream comes from deep in my soul. It rips through me like lightning through the sky on a stormy night. I have no throat for it to burn. I have no lungs to refill with air that doesn’t exist. I just scream and let what’s left of me fall apart.

A scream tore out of my throat. “AHHH!!!”

My body is drenched with what I know to be blood. Another scream. Another urge to vomit. Another wretched feeling in my gut. And fear. Cold, unhidden, alarming fear.

His eyes glowed like coals freshly pulled from a fire, a violent, unnatural red that locked onto me with such intensity I thought my chains might melt. My throat tightened, breath hitched, and before I could swallow it down, a sound tore from me, louder, sharper and raw with terror. I screamed and it was not a cute scream or a horror-movie pretty-girl scream. It was guttural, panicked, ripping out of me like my body was trying to expel fear itself.

Closing the lid with a small click, hearing the pallbearer say, ‘What a dick’ The vertigo of weightlessness now being felt, not liking the cards that were dealt Hearing the thud of dirt being thrown, the feeling of dread about the unknown The smell of dirt that’s been freshly turned, makes my stomach start to churn Not understanding why I can’t move nor utter a sound, as they continue to put me in the ground Eyes open to nothing but the dark, the lack of sound is never so stark Feeling returns to torpified limbs, and now the screaming and clawing begins “I’M AWAKE, I’M AWAKE!” I scream in vain, bloody torn fingers of going insane

“Hands. Squeeze.” Bones didn’t break. They… negotiated. Loudly. Something in my back popped and kept popping, a series of little detonations. My legs cramped so hard I saw old gods. Teeth pushed at my gums and then pulled back like a tide that didn’t want to commit. I made a sound that embarrassed me and didn’t stop it. I cried like a person whose body had suddenly learned a language and was using it to shout.

[Erin] My stomach twisted and retched as if someone had pushed their hands through my mouth and pulled my organs out, while my fingers curled around the edge of the sink, and my nails dug into the porcelain surface. I felt as if someone was pulling my insides out of me. My vision became blurry, my ears rang, and I couldn't stop the uncontrollable flow of tears that were streaming down my cheeks. It was a horrible feeling, spilling all my guts down the drain. The acrid tang lingered in my mouth as I heaved out the final content of my stomach before my lungs eventually had their considerable amount refill of air.

I almost instantly leaned forward and vomited a black slimy substance on Darius after what I saw dangling in front of me registered in my mind. I heard someone yell "fucking bitch" from somewhere in the room but the voice was drowned out by the sound of the my blood spinning like a hurricane through my veins. My temporary muteness lifted immediately because I could clearly hear myself scream. My body jittered like a leaf in a storm as I screamed again, my vocal cords threatening to tear. This time I was screaming a name as I stared into the decapitated head of the one guard who had sworn on his life to protect me. His lifeless eyes were staring into mine.

Was he questioning me? “How could you spout such nonsense? I said start the car this minute!” I yelled, clutching my head in pain. The throbbing in my head grew more intense, and my stomach made a series of noises from hunger. The worms in my gut were beginning to toy with my intestines.
