Christmas was going to be a disaster. And maybe… something much worse.

Too much that I was grateful for the distraction of the past few days. To distract myself for the night, I picked up my glass of whiskey and almost emptied it. When I lifted my gaze to Amber’s, I found her watching me. The candlelight cast a beautiful golden glow on her skin. She looked absolutely breathtaking. I raised my glass. “Merry Christmas.” She finally smiled and raised her glass of red wine. “Merry Christmas.” My gaze went to her lips. I took a sip and watched the muscles in her throat move as she swallowed. She caught my eyes and sank her teeth into her bottom lip.

"More? You've already done so much." Callum smiled, reaching for yet another package—this one larger, rectangular, wrapped in gold paper. "This one's from a tradition in our family," he said, nodding to Oscar. "Our parents always gave us each a book on Christmas Eve, to read before bed." The package was heavy in my hands, and I opened it carefully to reveal a beautifully bound volume—a collection of winter tales from across our kingdom, illustrated with intricate drawings that seemed to shimmer on the page. "We thought we could read it together tonight," Oscar explained. "Start our own tradition of stories by the fire."

And still, Sparkle couldn’t resist trying to reach him. “When we’re at home,” she added, “Hayzel and I put up the Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving... You have to have a little restraint, don’t you think? I mean this year, I actually saw Christmas wreaths for sale in September. That’s going a little far for me and I absolutely loooove Christmas.”

The room got very quiet. "You got her a present?" Catherine asked, amused. "She's staying in my house for Christmas. Of course I got her a present." I unwrapped it carefully. Inside was a wooden bookmark, smooth and perfect, with my name carved in beautiful script along one edge. My breath caught. This was the one Sophie had seen weeks ago. The one he'd been making in secret. "It's beautiful," I whispered. "He's been working on that forever," Sophie said. "I knew it was for someone. I just didn't know it was you."

Jordan Hall sighed as he pushed the grocery cart forward, the squeaky wheel wobbling with every uneven rotation. It felt as if it were a metaphor of his life, almost screaming under the weight of the emotional storm raging inside of him. The grocery store was warm and crowded, buzzing with shoppers wrapped in puffy coats, glittering scarves, and festive hats. Holiday music jingled overhead—songs that normally made him nostalgic, made him smile, made him feel grounded in the season. But not today. Today, everything felt distant, muted, like he was separated from the rest of the world by a thick sheet of glass. Everyone else was moving on with their cheerful holiday errands while Jordan trudge

and offering her his hand, which she gladly took, and he led her through the golden door from which he had appeared moments ago. Inside was what could only be described as a cozy little cottage. There was a roaring fireplace, the mantel topped with large green garland adorned with pine cones and shiny Christmas bulbs in red and gold. The sides of the fireplace were flanked with penguin sentinels carved into the rich oak. Two over-stuffed chairs sat nearby, and a full Christmas tree, decorated with various ornaments of all shapes and sizes, mostly in red and gold, filled the back corner near a window covered with thick red drapes. “Please have a seat,” Santa Claus said, offering her the seat

3rd January, 1999(morning) The Warehouse Lana Its a never ending circle. A repeated sequence I experience everyday, locked up in this room with little or no contact. A hollow feeling in my heart whenever I think about my family, the grief I feel whenever I remember those who died in that bloody Christmas party.

Her mother had added some new poinsettias and greenery. A bright smile came to Molly’s face when she saw her favorite Christmas fixture in the Carmichael household. It was a large plastic candy cane that reached from the floor all the way to the ceiling. This year, the Carmichaels chose to rest the candy cane against the living room wall right beside their glowing Christmas tree.
