3. The night had grown chilly, announcing the early arrival of the winter. Halloween marked the end of summer, a joyous occasion where families spent time together before the dark, cold winter arrived. In the ancient days, when winter was filled with deaths from famine, people used to believe the boundary of the worlds between the living and dead blurred on this day. They believed the otherworldly spirits slipped into the human world as the veil came down at nightfall.

Jessie was the one to say, looking both Christian and Andres in the eye. "I agree, I think you too should sit beside each other." Kimmy put in. Again, Jessie gently kicked Christian for him to agree, he got up slowly then helped Kimmy out of her chair. "How are you doing this fine evening, darling?" Christian mocked, as he sat beside Andres. Jessie gave him a pointed look. "So Halloween is coming up soon. Are we going to have a haunted house or not?" Kimmy asked, trying to change the subject. Christian gave an enermous smile, "our Halloween celebration is nothing like how the humans do it, I'm glad you are here to experience it.

I replied with a friendly sneer before leaving Gar. After roughly a long day of lessons and some tests and some pop quizzes in between, Mr. Glyn was ready to give us the day’s send-off message. Halloween is coming up tomorrow and I guess the school authorities are thinking of going bigger than ever this year. Not like it really puts me up in a frenzy or anything but still, I’m tired of having the same old Halloween every year. “….so like I was saying class, as you all know, tomorrow is the thirty-first day of this month of October and you all know what that means…..” said Mr. Glyn with a face that made me think that he was expec

When Shantal knocked on the door, small boxes in hand, she nearly fell over when she saw Trevor, a boy whom she hardly knew before, stand in the doorway with a gun pointed at her. Trevor stares at her up and down for a moment before lowering his gun. "Hey, I hate to break it to you, but Halloween stopped being celebrated over half a millennia ago. And it's also not October." Trevor says in a sleepy yet lighthearted voice. Before Shantal could say anything, she hears what sounds like a truck falling down a cliff. "Really Steve?" Trevor says as he immediately runs behind the door, disappearing into the house.

“No, I don’t think so. Why? What is it?” “It’s an old Pagan festival. It’s where Halloween came from – it was celebrated on the last day of October, and it marked the end of the harvest season. It was also the night when the veil between worlds was at its thinnest.” “You mean, like, ghosts and stuff?”

None of the five Holiday offspring had believed their father when he'd told them that their family was descended from the ancient Celtic spirits of the seasons. It was a coincidence, they'd all figured, that each of them had been born on a holiday - whether a modern one, like Valentine, the middle brother, or an ancient one, like Summer, the older of the two girls who was born on midsummer's day. Sam had gotten both - Halloween, the modern holiday, and Samhain, the ancient festival. He still blessed his parents for calling him just Sam, even though they'd meant to name him Samhain.
