I’ve always wanted to go to Chadwick’s Creations.” There was a brief silence over the line and he could tell that Darien was adding up the pros and cons of going. “I’m open to going. It’s supposed to be a delicious place to go to for people who like sweet things. I am free that evening so it works with my schedule.”

No big surprise. "Huh. There's actually a pretty big section. You need a book on spells for gardening? Or how about one titled Weather Magicks? There's even one for love charms and a volume on breaking hexes. Nothing about magical Christmas decorations so far." "Try looking under 'Holiday'," she suggested. Masks promised anonymity, and the air buzzed with forbidden possibility. I came alone, driven by a restless itch after too many bland dates. The invite came via a vague text from a friend of a friend: "Halloween Sex Party. No rules, just pleasure." My pulse quickened as I passed through iron gates, nodded through by two guys in devil horns. Inside, the mansion throbbed. Dim lights flickered, fog swirled, and bass-heavy music shook my bones. Bodies danced, costumes barely there—witches in lingerie, vampires in leather. Moans drifted from dark corners where groups tangled in lust.

A strange feeling of power and excitement came with it. She looked about the Halloween party. They’d really gone all out this year. Wax candles adorned the walls, sarcophagi were being used as tables, and cobwebbed skeletons hung in gibbets, or lay in dugouts on the walls. The lighting was perfect, the glow of candlelight along with the soft lighting of old electric Edison bulbs (which Josephine was pretty sure were banned under EU regulations) projected an eerie atmosphere that conjured up images of bygone times.
