Eva tensed beside me, her hand hovering near her weapon.
The figure stepped into the light, revealing a gaunt face and hollow eyes. He looked like a rogue, his clothes tattered and his posture hunched, but there was something off about him—something unnatural.
“You meddle in things you do not understand,” he rasped, his voice grating like metal on stone.
Eva took a step forward, her stance aggressive. “Who are you, and what do you want?”
The man’s lips curled into a twisted smile. “I am a harbinger,” he said. “A messenger of the Shadows. And I bring you a warning: turn back now, or face annihilation.”
