This was where I had come to meet those girls, to fulfill my task to the shopkeeper. The girls had told me that stepping into the lake on a full moon would reveal something about your past, present, and future. I don't believe them to be lying about that part--but I now know that I hadn't received the full story, either. I stood at the base of the lake, staring down into its dark depths. It was beautiful in an ancient kind of way, in a way that sends goosebumps scattering along your skin. Dark hues of black, blue and purple swirled and combined. The silver flecks within the surface drifted in clusters, looking like stars in the night sky.

"He's still heading west!" The sound of a horseman wearing a black coat echoed in Rain's ears. Rain really couldn't see the horseman's face because it was dark and it was too fast. "But, that horseman's voice is too similar to... Samantha!" thought Rain. Samantha can feel Jace's presence which seeped into her senses through the dense fog. "He's in Black Lake!" Samantha spurred her horse into a turn towards Black Lake City, which Randall followed. Black Lake—is a small beautiful area and has become one of their favourite places to go for a walk when not at work during better times.

Harmony immediately wiggled her brows. “Of course he is. Mysterious hot guy in creepy mythology class. Very on brand for you.”

The witches closed in, their laughter echoing like a chorus of nightmares. Something inside Aqua snapped. A surge of dark energy, unfamiliar and terrifying, welled up within her. She felt her pendant grow hot against her skin, the clear crystal turning black as smoke. The air around her crackled with raw power as she turned back towards the attackers, her fear morphing into a blinding rage.

The man probably slept with his phone in his hand. I pressed my forehead against the cold window, watching the darkness fly past. Somewhere out there was a lake, Noir had said. And beyond that, forest that stretched for miles in every direction. Isolated. Remote. The kind of place where you could scream and no one would hear you. The kind of place where no one could find you if you didn't want to be found. The thought should have been comforting. Instead, it made anxiety curl tighter in my chest. What if something happened?
