Harvard Classics Five-foot Shelf Of Books の小説・ストーリー

Unfortunately, every volume on advanced calculus, statistics, and logarithms is found up here. And, unfortunately, so are many of the more technical volumes pertaining to chemistry. Alex turns from the shelf and spots me before I’ve noticed the tall shadow stretching across the beaten, fraying carpet belongs to him. He slides the book he was eyeing back onto the shelf, catching me by the arm when I try to slide past him. “Wait.”

The shelves were built with strong centuries-old wood that could stand against termites and other natural elements. Even after five decades, it still looked the same but due to it not having been opened after so many years, the smell of old books was thick in the air, as well as the metallic scent of blood. It had been fifty years but the evidence was still there. The moment Archer entered, his eyes were drawn to the desk by the wall but Archer quickly took his eyes off the desk and walked toward the shelf he came for. The sooner he found those books, the sooner he could leave that place.

My hands skimmed the books stacked in the book shelves, and time ticked by painfully slow as I took Alpha Nolan's younger brother's advice and stayed inside the room. It had been over two hours since I slept and woke up on the white and gold bed, so I decided to take a look at all the books that were in the book shelves. The writing on the spines were mostly fading away, gathering dust as they had no use for the people who lived here. I admired some of the old classics and new books as my eyes wandered over every title. I had gathered a stack of books in my hand, picking the ones I wanted to read and taking them out. So far I had five books which were classics that I knew would peak my inter

That Friday, five years ago has been the best day of her life till recently. Now she wishes she never entered that library, where she met that heartbreaker; but she recalls pushing open the heavy swing door and went into a large hall with a tiled chessboard floor. About forty to fifty shelves of neatly arranged books fanned out from the central reception area. Behind the shelves were comfortable leather armchairs and large barricaded tables for quiet studies arranged in rows. The cold and hushed atmosphere was occasionally punctured by laughers and loud whispers. The entire hall smells of old books and bleach.

I whispered to myself, my hands shaking as I knelt to gather the scattered books. “Really smooth.” I started shoving the leather-bound volumes back onto the shelf, desperate to erase any sign of my presence. But as I reached for a thin, worn-out book that had slid further than the others, I stopped. It wasn’t a textbook or a business journal. It was a photo album. Curiosity is a dangerous thing, but I couldn’t help myself. I sat back on my heels and flipped it open. My breath caught. It was Harold. He was just a little boy, maybe four or five years old, with the same stubborn set to his jaw he has now.

A pang of thought for Liam and how much he would have loved to explore the place was fleeting as I stopped, out of breath, and stared into the perfectly normal-looking, if massive and oppressive, foyer leading into the main library. The coolest part about Harvard was how both witches and normal students and faculty were able to co-exist. Most buildings had a magic component of some kind to them, specifically for my kind, off limits to normals. But for the most part, including the cafeteria and some of the classes, we mingled together like we were all one big, happy campus.

He had stood in the corridor outside the office and found this condition mildly alarming. He opened the door that looked like a cupboard. The library was not large—perhaps five metres by eight, lined floor to ceiling on three walls with shelves that held a mix of what appeared to be the estate's collected acquisitions over decades: reference volumes, local history, a run of leather-bound classics that were probably decorative, and a more lived-in section on the lower shelves that contained the kind of varied, idiosyncratic mix that accumulates when people actually use a space. A basket chair near the window. A reading lamp with a warm bulb. A small wooden table that held a bowl of dried flow

Those were good times. Pushing open the library door, I was enveloped by the familiar scents of paper and ink. The sleek, modern shelves, packed with books of every genre, rose majestically to the ceiling, creating a sea of literary treasures. Every book had been handpicked by me, each one a reflection of my eclectic tastes. I navigated the narrow aisles, my fingers trailing over the spines of the books until they paused in front of a shelf filled with classic novels. With a practiced motion, I pulled a row of books off a shelf, revealing a small, discreet panel. I pressed my thumb against the cool surface, and the panel slid open with a soft click releasing a whisper of secrets.

I found the library first, and despite everything, my breath caught. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves lined three walls, filled with thousands of volumes. Leather armchairs positioned by windows. A rolling ladder to reach the higher shelves. It looked like something out of a period drama. I ran my fingers along the spines, reading titles. Classics. Contemporary literature. History. Philosophy. Everything organized with obsessive precision. I pulled out a worn copy of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and opened it. The margins were filled with notes in neat handwriting.

He smiled slipping his hand into mine and beginning to lead me towards the golden staircase, my steps a little slow as I attempted to climb the steps in the heels I was given. As I reached the very top of the staircase, I couldn’t help the gasp from astonishment which came from my mouth, I thought this place from the bottom level looked intriguing but up closely, it was incredible. The shelves were a dark blue colour with lights placed within the tops of the shelves to illuminate the books stored below. But right in the centre of the shelves of books stood the one which seemed to be on display, it was propped up slightly with its own light illuminating the words.
