Harvard Classics Five-foot Shelf Of Books の小説・ストーリー

he said. I barely heard him. My feet moved on their own, each step echoing softly against the wooden-paneled walls. My gaze lifted—and kept lifting. Shelves rose in endless rows, climbing up five floors, the highest disappearing into dim shadows above. Staircases wound upward like careful spirals, while tall ladders leaned against the shelves, waiting for curious hands. Each section bore a bold sign, neatly marking the knowledge it held. “There must be a fortune in books here,” I whispered, almost afraid my voice might disturb something sacred.

I scoured the classical novels section, hoping it was just out of place. Nothing. I felt surprised. I didn’t lose books. I had managed to keep every book in its place for the last five years and I was not about to break my record today. I heard the library doors open but I didn’t bother to leave the classical novels section to greet whomever had entered. I had already retrieved my step stool and was practically hanging off the top shelf trying to find the missing book when I heard an unfamiliar voice say my name. “Mia?” The voice said.

My steps slowed as I took in the shelves that stretched higher than I could see, a maze of knowledge stacked and bound in leather. I froze in the doorway, clutching the edge of my apron like I had no right to even breathe here. Because I didn’t. I couldn’t even read. I thought Rowe was going to teach me but…well, it was just another disappointment for me to brood over. Marcus had called books “a waste in omega hands.” He’d said our sole purpose was to serve and not to think. Maybe a part of me still believed him, because standing here, staring at the endless shelves, I felt small again….and pathetic.

On that account, Evy can relate to her shock. It was also the second-largest room in the house with the ballroom taking first. The height of each shelf was something to be astounded about as they almost reached the ceiling. Whereas the books stacked together all in meticulous fashion. "Are all these allowed to be borrowed?" As the woman began to look at the spines of books and touch them in fever.

The drawers were a dead end. Rhychard felt around edges and behind drawers, inside each little whatnot and behind every picture. Nothing. He sat in one of the leather chairs, his back to the window, as he stared at the office. :How goes it, Warrior?: :Either Harvest Fellowship has the best custodian in the world or our good pastor is a little OCD. Nothing is out of place.: Rhychard scanned the walls, the desk, the bookshelves…the books? Rhychard stood and scanned the books on the shelf. They were alphabetized within subjects. Prayer. Commentaries. Biographies. Between a Biblical concordance and a topical Bible was a large hardbound book on American Baseball. "Now, you're out of place, aren't

When I asked the butler, he said there were more than a thousand books in a two-story facility. My hand shuffled the books on one shelf at the left corner of the room and only stopped with a purple light glimmered to a part that evoked my eyes. Since they placed it on the 1st tier of the 10 feet bookshelf, a ladder for someone like me was a must. I grinned when the purple leather book with a gold gilded frame on its sides landed on my hands. They decorated the center with the Daria Empire’s Griffin logo carved from amber, plus the golden clasp added to its vintage aesthetic.

And the worst part is, it took my best friend dying for me to realize this. I pull my fingers through my hair in frustration as I look around the library, remembering that I need to check out Wuthering Heights for my literature class. After rummaging through every related category I can think of with no luck, I slump into a chair, growing frustrated. I get up to leave the library before my eyes land on a small shelf across the room labeled 'Classics'. How did I not see that? I sigh in relief and rush to grab the book off the shelf, heading towards the librarian to check it out.

"Thanks. Got a book in mind?" "Yeah, 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald," I say, and she points me to where it might be. "Just one left should be along that wall. Good luck." With that, she heads back to her desk. After about 10-15 minutes of searching, I finally spotted it on the fifth shelf. As I reach for the book on the fifth shelf, I find myself stretching on my tiptoes, struggling to grab it. But then, I start to tip backward, almost taking a tumble.

There was a leather couch in the corner, a bar cart with expensive-looking bottles of whiskey, and a window that overlooked the estate grounds. It was the kind of room that screamed power and control. The kind of room that belonged to a man like Jonathan Hart. I walked over to the bookshelves, running my fingers along the spines. Most of them were business books, biographies of CEOs and politicians, a few on philosophy. Then I noticed something odd. One of the shelves looked… different. Like it didn’t quite sit flush with the wall. I reached out and pressed against it gently. There was a soft click, and the shelf swung inward.

The library was dimly lit, the soft glow of desk lamps casting warm pools of light across the rows of bookshelves. The air was thick with the scent of old paper and ink, a comforting aroma that wrapped around Charlie, Liam, Maya, and Ethan as they settled into their usual study nook as they prepared for their upcoming mid term exams. The four friends had claimed a large wooden table in the corner, surrounded by towering shelves filled with ancient tomes and modern textbooks alike.
