I spent about an hour scanning the diary, only stopping to thoroughly read the entries where I was mentioned. I slowed when I came to one that was written about two weeks after I left.

Suddenly, they hear breaking glass and yelling. They could hear the wolf growling above them. The sound of a sword ringing through the air followed by yelps filled their little hiding place until finally there was silence. They heard footsteps coming towards the hatch door and voices. Rainn hugged Liam tighter as the sound of boots got closer and closer to the hatch. It springs open and standing there is a huge man with glowing eyes.

My dad turns and my eyes move to Ryder when Hatchet steps forward and stands beside his son. “Antonio, maybe we should discuss this in the office? I had no idea that ...” my dad pulls his gun and aims it at Hatchet. “That you would get fucking caught! Why Hatchet? We have always been generous with your commission. So why did you go against me and mine?” My dad is seething with anger. I gasp as I look at Hatchet. I let go of Ryder’s hand and turn to face Hatchet. No h wouldn’t do this. Hatchet is a good man, he wouldn’t steal from my family.

I watched as every member of Chaos’ family cut their palm open and make a trail of blood from where they stood to where the urn was placed without a hitch or pause in their chant. I felt the moment when a change occurred to the power flowing around and saw the exact moment when the urn went up in flames. The brighter it burned, the higher the chants went and the more it rattled. I held my breath when the lid of the urn flew right off of it as if kicked before it burst into pieces. Its bursting did not shock me as much as the phoenix that emerged out of it with its flaming wings wide spread and its head thrown back as it let out what sounded very much like a battle cry.

The shock wave hurled me to the ground, causing the world to spin for a moment. I sat up and saw black smoke emitting into the air. Getting on my feet again, I saw two other hunters appeared. They drew out their shining hatchets and curved blades from their backs. One of them threw a hatchet at me. I did a back-flip, missing the weapon barely an inch. The other lunged forward, but I welcomed him with a kick to the chest. He went airborne and broke through a window shop.

I followed before grabbing a very human book. It was an old history book about a specific battle and I held it in front of Hectyr. “What’s this one about?”
