Adeline’s POV I woke with my cheek pressed into something cold and wet. For a few seconds, I just lay there, barely awake, listening to the faint sound of water moving somewhere beside me. I slowly opened my eyes and found myself staring at a tangle of reeds. Murky water pooled between them and sunlight was already slipping through the trees above. Where was I?

Caroline's room to invite her to have lunch with her. Upon arrival there, she immediately pressed the doorbell of the room. However, there was no response from Mrs. Caroline. “Mom, let's have lunch together!” Adaline kept ringing the bell. Until finally, she decided to go straight in because there was no answer from her mother. “AAAKKK!” Adaline immediately screamed hysterically when she saw her mother lying unconscious on the floor with a charred body. Alex and the maids who heard her scream immediately ran over to Adaline.

Micah POV I woke this morning for the last day of final exams. I immediately walked across the hall to wake up my brothers, then next door to my sister’s room and find she is still gone? What the hell? This is not like her at all. There is no way in hell she would miss the last day of final exams. I went to the kitchen and found grandma in tears, “Grandma, where is Adele?” She just shook her head and pointed to grandpa. The memory of that night clawed at her mind, vivid and unforgiving. The scent of smoke and blood seemed to linger in the air, as if the earth itself had absorbed the sins of that night. Her throat constricted, and her stomach twisted violently. Eva, stepping out beside her, immediately noticed. “Are you okay?” she asked, her voice filled with concern. Adeline swallowed, forcing herself to nod. “Yeah. Just… memories.” Eva didn’t press but gently squeezed her hand. Ahead of them, Charles had already made his way inside, his presence strong and unwavering.

Her eyes looked distant—empty, as if she was carrying something she didn’t want to share. Without another word, she stood up and walked out of the room. Odette and Thea fell silent, watching her leave. Adeline headed to the kitchen. Silent tears flowed out as I dipped lower in the mattress. My headache had finally resided by the time I woke up. The curtains were drawn on the window and it was already dark outside. I stared out at the moonless night beyond as my heard wrapped around the reality. Sighing inaudibly, I turned around and saw Adeline hunched over her study table, her nose poking into a book. She was really engrossed into whatever she was reading. Getting off the bed, I tiptoed toward her. As my shadow fell over her book, she turned around, "Oh, hi, you are finally up." Putting the bookmark inside the page, she continued, "How is your headache?"

He picked up his thermos and took a slow sip, but the look in his eyes was worse than any insult he could have thrown at me. That afternoon, I grabbed an empty sterile vial from the company medicine cabinet. When I got home that evening, Alice was cooking in the kitchen. The roar of the range hood drowned out everything else. I took the chance to slip into the bedroom and buried my face in the pillow, inhaling deeply. I couldn't smell anything. She claimed the scent was fading, but I couldn't catch even a hint of diesel. "Dinner's ready." Alice appeared in the doorway, her apron speckled with oil and her spatula still dripping with broth.

Madden followed her behind till she stepped out. He stayed by the door, arms crossed as he watched her go down the mountain. Immediately she went out of sight, he scoffed dryly. "I fucking recognize anything with a pussy when I see one." he muttered slowly, smiling devilishly as he returned to the manor. -- "What the hell!!" Adeline shouted when she got to the forest separating the manor from the clan. The body fell from her shoulder. "I can't believe this! Is he doing this on purpose? Carry a body and give it to the dogs to eat? Damn it! Is he human?" She muttered.

Dad added, "She's right. Don't hold back. Tell us what you want. You don't need to save money for us. Adeline sends us money every month, so we're doing fine." Clara snuggled closer to my mother and smiled. "You two are the best! I love you so much!" She glanced at her phone and frowned. "But we'll have to wait a while. The food I ordered still isn't here. It's already late!" Just as she dialed the delivery number, my phone rang. They all turned toward the sound, and our eyes met. I stood frozen in shock. Clara suddenly hid behind my mother, her voice shaking. "Adeline, why are you hiding in the alley? Are you following me? Please don't hurt me again. I'm scared!"
