After He Let Me Fall
Heck, I was even afraid of the enemies I couldn’t see.
“I’m trying to hold everything together,” I said finally, my voice breaking despite my effort to stay composed. “My father almost died. The company is collapsing. Everyone wants something from me and I don’t even know where to start.”
The words tumbled out before I could stop them.
“I feel like I’m drowning.”
Something in his expression softened instantly.
All the sharpness drained away, leaving behind his touch and my jittery nerves.
Before I could react, he stepped closer.
My breath caught, and instinct told me to move back, but my feet stayed rooted where they were.
