Too Broken To Be Healed
“You’re the one who’s hurt, and I’m here crying like—”
Matteo let out a weak chuckle, his hand lifting to brush away the remaining tears on my cheeks.
“I think I’m still stronger than you,” he said lightly, a faint teasing glint in his eyes despite everything. “Even in a hospital bed.”
A soft laugh escaped me, shaky but real.
“You always find a way to make silly jokes,” I said, lightly hitting his shoulder.
The moment my hand made contact, he winced.
Guilt hit me instantly.
“I’m sorry,” I said again, more sincerely this time, my voice dropping as I looked at him with concern.
