It glowed faintly from within. The Origin Book grew warm once again. Valerie understood immediately. This was the destination shown on the map. She reached forward carefully. The instant her fingers touched the crystal, the world dissolved around her. She did not lose consciousness. Instead, memories unfolded with astonishing clarity. She witnessed the final days of the first Vane. He did not die believing his brother hated him. He died believing reconciliation remained possible. Only after his death did the younger brother seize control of the Blood Oath. Valerie watched him rewrite ancient records.

I took down one of my own. But three more had slipped through. Max came running back. Valentin took out one of them from afar. I started fighting with another. But the third was just too many. It plowed into my side, knocking me down. If this had been a real vampire fight, I would have been dead. Valentin waved his hand and called off the dummies. They pulled back and then all dropped like they were dead, marionettes with their strings cut. Valentin, as a former professor, was used to hiding his emotions. Yet I had come to know him very well. As he turned to face us, I could see the annoyance flashing in his gaze.

“If this is what you have become, then end it here.” Valen’s chest heaved. He looked at the man who had once been closer than a brother. His voice shook with rage. “You should have died beside me, not risen above me.” And with a single strike, he ended Hugo’s life. Gasps and cries tore through the crowd. Mothers wept. Children buried their faces against their fathers’ legs. Warriors lowered their heads in defeat. Valen stood tall above the bodies of the Elders and his former Beta. His chest rose and fell, his face hard as stone.

The seemingly more congenial vampire was obviously a lot less stable than her brother. Vale hissed in annoyance again but straightened up. "I told you I wasn't going to be bloody babysitting," he grumbled loudly, holding up his hand when Valerio took a step towards him, a snarl on his face. "Alright, I'm going!" Valerie laughed softly at her brother's disgruntled expression. "Be quick about it and you can come back and join in with the fun," she teased before he streaked away and launched herself at a youngling who had gotten too close.

The lights in her parents room were the first to turn on followed by her elder siblings. Meeting heads on in the corridor, they all rushed towards Roxy's room. Letine, Roxy’s elder brother instinctively pushed the door opened and to their surprise, they found her unconscious on the floor.

I asked him straightforwardly. "First of all, out of the four families that concern you now, two out of four are originally ancient families. And that is Valentine and the Solano families. The Valenciana and the Phantomhive families are the only humans to begin with. At the battle of succession over the throne for being the Vampire King, the ancestors of the Solano family flee to the Human Realm and then hide their nature as vampires by sealing their bloodlines. And that seal can only be broken by the vampire who has a stronger bloodline than them— the Valentine.

She went at it for long, till his long cold hands covered her lips. “Don’t loose your voice by screaming. No-one can hear you here.” He whispered against her ears. Her breathing went overboard, and she could swear she felt his fangs on her neck for a fraction of a second. “I will kill the three brothers. It is long coming, and I can’t wait to satisfy my fantasy, and then, you will be my bride. It is the perfect picture of ‘as it should be’,” he said with a laugh that was as deadly as a serpent’s venom.
