I could see the look of despair in his eyes in that split second as the dagger got closer and closer to his chest. As the dagger pierced his chest, there was a brief spurt of white that blinded me as the room began to chill, but I pressed the dagger into his chest harder, not willing to give up, not after everything. I heard the skin split and the blood splurt before a sickening thwack told me that I’d hit his heart. After my eyes had recovered from the blinding light, I blinked slowly and saw that I had been successful.
