They were distant but I could feel them around me. I shook the thoughts away, my heart raving at the memory. Just then, Justin leaned in and planted a soft kiss on my lips. “Earth to Astrid,” he teased, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “Damn baby, you have got to stop running away with your mind without me.” I smiled at him. But then, my stomach started aching, I could feel an headache forming, and beads of sweat started to form on my brows. Astrid’s POV My heart is racing, crawling up my throat like a rejected meal, making me feel like I’m going to collapse on the street. I look at my watch again, seeing that it’s fifteen minutes before eight, which is the time of my first class for the day. And yet here I am still, power-walking to Delta Kappa, the fraternity house where my boyfriend stays at. “Hey, Astrid!” one of the frat boys from Delta Kappa greets me as he sees me running up the porch. I forgot his name completely, but I remember him to be one of the friendly ones. “Cade’s still inside.”

I’m looking for a moment too long, because suddenly her eyes fly up, meeting mine. Shit. Her lips stretch into a cheerful smile, and she rises from her seat at the table, heading toward me. Double shit. I seriously consider just bolting for the door, but that would make this even more fucking awkward. So I take a step back, waiting for her, wondering what the fuck I’m going to say. “Hi!” Astrid chirps, stepping out of the doorway from the hub. “What are you doing here?” “I, uh…” I grumble, reaching up to run a hand through my hair. I totally forget that it’s tied back, though, and my fingers just get stuck. “I was looking for Theo,” I lie, yanking my hand out of my hair.

By this time, my appetite was spoiled. “Ah! Is this shrimp? I am allergic to shrimp, Elijah!” Astrid screamed. The scene she caused puzzled me; she was panting and gagging. I stood there not knowing what to do, as she kept rejecting my help. “Elijah!” she called out again. “Don't come close to me, peasant,” she coughed. Elijah came rushing into the room, his face showing so much worry and anxiety. "But I didn't do anything wrong," I muttered silently while a tear rolled down my cheeks.
