It had been mortifying with the only bright side being that she was allowed to go home for the rest of the day and remain unpunished for disrupting the lesson. High school was a lot like this, Gretel had to realise and couldn't un see: a lot of rules that didn't seem to make sense; a lot of thought required to not have your shoes get thrown behind the cupboards; and a lot of useless and arbitrary people in power who were obviously and shamelessly embezzling from the school after getting in through nepotism. This was almost like high school, and the realisation of it only made her feel even more sick.
