A moment later, a piece of paper slid through the narrow gap beneath my door. The footsteps retreated in haste. I peered through the peephole. The hallway was empty. I didn't touch the note, afraid of smudging fingerprints. Instead, I crouched and read the words on it: I know the truth about Edmund's death. Come to the big banyan tree in Greenfield Residences at 11 p.m. Don't call the police. The note was crafted with meticulous care—letters cut out from newspapers and books, pieced together like a ransom demand, leaving no trace of handwriting.

There were entries made at different times, as if someone had meticulously detailed whatever had been happening at that moment in time. As Eric had said, many stories were woven together. I often stopped to question Eric on the authenticity of what I was reading. He confirmed my thoughts. These were truly historic books that had been kept within the royal family for centuries. I scanned through some parts of the stories, until I stumbled onto something interesting. “Eric?” I asked. “Yes, sweetheart?” he asked looking over to me. “What does this mean?” I asked, pushing the book towards him. He scanned the contents before he looked up at me.

The dim, golden light from the chandeliers above created pools of light and shadow, adding to the library’s timeless atmosphere. I searched diligently, combing through the aisles dedicated to ancient mysteries and the occult. The titles were intriguing yet obscure, written in languages I could barely decipher. He put HOW TO STOP TIME by MATT HAIG, followed by EVERGREEN by NAOMI HIRAHARA. "Then KISS THE GIRLS by JAMES PATTERSON." He put it next to the first book. "I've read that." I went on in a spur of excitement. "It's a thriller and mystery novel about a detective who's trying to track down a serial killer. So many twists and cliffhangers. Total page-turner." I giggled.

The syllables didn't carry a shred of reality anymore. Slowly, my boots dragged across the floor until I picked up the journal. His tight, cramped handwriting choked every single page. It was neat, methodical, and entirely clinical. Dozens of frantic questions filled the wide margins, punctuated by arrows, complex connections, dates, and lineage names. Every single historical answer he uncovered simply birthed three more mysteries. I flipped through another brittle page, tracking the ink. Samuel Blackwell. Eleanor Dawson. Founders. Bloodlines. She was surprised to see it was a book about the Templars when she was jostled from all sides as shoppers grabbed a copy for themselves. She followed Willow around the corner and into an aisle labeled Biographical Histories. Willow stopped in front of the third shelf and ran her puffy hands along the spines, finally pulling out a book and handing it to Clara: Historic Crimes in Hiestora. When Clara pried it open, the book issued a hissing sound and she noticed it suddenly felt lighter in her hands. Cracking open the dusty tome, Clara noticed pictures that were moving as if the history was playing out once again inside these pages. Below the pictures were written texts of the events.

“But immediately you feel better, I’m taking you down here. What kind of books do you like? Fiction, non-fiction or historical?” “Any really, but mostly historical.” I replied in a more cherry voice. Her excitement is starting to rub off on me. “Ooohh, which books have you read? I bet you that I know.” “Lycan history mostly.” Her smile broadened. “I have just what you would love.”

I say. I hope so. I really hope he’s right. I look at the clock on the wall and it says 1:48PM. I open my laptop and I start to read. The book I have to read is actually a historical book based on arts and crafts in the 18th century. It’s not a romance novel, so forgive me if I’m not very excited to read it. I could read 600 pages of a romance or horror novel, but my reading assignments are just not inviting enough.
