"Yes, I love giving gifts because it brings happiness to people. It's like a hobby for me. Whenever I have some free time, I enjoy giving gifts. How about you, Audrey? What's your hobby?" I asked, to keep her from asking me more questions. "Well I don't exactly have something I like doing. I just dabble in a bit of this and that. I cannot count the numbers of things I like. I like baking, I like singing, I like crocheting..." I zoned off as she droned on. "Are you even listening?" She asked after sometime. "Ah, yes, um, they're all cool hobbies." She sighed loudly and stood up from the bed. "Seems I'm boring you. I'll just leave you alone."

“Do you have any hobbies?” Hobbies? When would I have time for hobbies? Maybe I can use my answer to drop hints, though. See if she picks up on them? Maybe her earlier agreement about not being believed was a hint? “I like running. In the forest?” If I didn’t sound stupid before then I do now.

Too happy for someone like me. He is one of those annoying people who never get jealous or are petty and as a self-accepted petty person, I don’t like it much. Or maybe I am just trying to find faults in this perfect person. “So what are your hobbies?” I ask him, remembering the list of things Lucas told me to ask. “Oh I have so many.” Oh no. “I like rock climbing.” No no. “I run the marathon, and if not, I am always training for one.” He says as he laughs, “I actually love any physical activity.”

Her avoiding the details reminded me of myself dodging questions, covering cracks, pretending everything was not that deep. I stared at the ceiling. The fan wobbling, squeaking on every rotation.
