Black slacks paired with the same color coat, necktie, and a white polo inside. My eyes widened. These guys are from Herondale High! I can’t be wrong because they’re the only school here in district whose school uniform is all black and where students are gangly. A corner desk had new parchment along with magic quills, and shelves were lined high with ancient, blank tomes to be inscribed. My closet creaked as it swung open, showing the uniforms in my size: the silver-buttoned, black-coated uniforms, blouses, and cloaks in plain black trim. When I touched one of the cloaks, the lining of it came to life in red and gold threads, and the picture of the broken crown was for one moment before it disappeared.

Zara’s POV The temple doors slammed open, sending a gust of cold wind through the hall and everyone turned. A group of students stepped in, dressed in deep blue uniforms. Their boots matched against the stone floor as they walked in tight formation, their heads high, and their backs straight. With everything they are exuding, no doubts, they are pure humans. They didn’t carry the wild energy of werewolves or the weird grace of witches. But somehow, they felt just as powerful. Maybe even more.

First day of school and I was already late. I don’t know how I did it, but a few minutes later, I was standing in front of the mirror, adjusting the academy uniform—a fitted black blazer with four wolves holding hands to indicate unity, an image I assumed had to be the Moondew crest, was stitched on the pocket, a white blouse, and a plain navy skirt.
