Rebecca woke up in a bed that she didn’t recognize. She sat up and looked around not recognizing the room or anything in it either. She tried remembering what had happened. She had gotten ready for dinner and headed down to the lobby of the building where Kert had said he was waiting for her. When she could remember him holding the door open for her to get into the car and that was it.

Despite the buzz around the house, the kitchen seems relatively quiet without my siblings around. “Is the rest of the family still asleep?” I ask, looking around to search for a familiar face. “Ryan and Alice went home to pack and will be back for lunch. Lauren is sleeping in her old bedroom, and Chad went back to his apartment,” Dad explains while reading today’s paper. “Who wrote this article about the wedding?” I snap my head in his direction, impressed at the speed that Poppy managed to have the article done. “Poppy was supposed to do it. A Homecoming was a peculiar experience. The house was exactly as I had remembered it—warm, cozy, with soft laughter and the soothing hum of a life I had lived. My uncle and aunt greeted me like I had never been away. My sister, although a little standoffish at first, soon got back into the habit of poking fun at me the way she used to. We had dinner together, a simple meal, but the best I had eaten in years. Not because of the food, but because of the people. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was part of something normal.

BROOKE I hear the click of the lock as I turn my key in the door of my dorm room, adjusting my backpack on my shoulders and turning to start down the hallway. I’m on cloud nine- freshly marked, a permanent smile etched across my face. Heart full of love.
