He asks Death "Well she's a Goddess and she already found her mate, so your magic doesn't work on her," Death tells him

"Exactly. And you have our support." Astrid grins mischievously, trying to lighten the mood. "Dex I heard about your… interesting reaction to horror movies." Dexter rolls his eyes but couldn't suppress a smile. "Alright, alright, you got me. I've never liked them. Real horrors are easier to face because you can fight back. But in movies, it’s the helplessness, the anticipation of something you can't see coming—it gets under my skin." Phoenix and Astrid exchanged glances, their amusement replaced with understanding. Phoenix nods. "Makes sense. In real life, you can control. Movies, not so much."

My palms hit the concrete hard enough to crack it, dust exploding upward in a thick cloud that swallowed me whole. Perfect. “Where are you?” Darrius growled, circling, fangs glinting. “Show your fucking face!” I stayed low and silent, dragging my claws through the grit to kick up more dust, thickening the haze. Vision blurred for him, not for me. I could smell him—blood, smoke, and fear under the arrogance. I moved left, then right, a shadow in the cloud. He wouldn’t see me coming. Not until my teeth were in his throat.

Her fear and her courage and her exhaustion, all mixed together. And I feel something else. The dust. Every grain of it. I feel it like ants crawling on my skin. I feel its hunger. Its wrongness. Its desperate need to spread, to consume, to turn everything living into more of itself. "Burn," I whisper. The silver light answers. It pours from my hand—not bright and blinding like Lyra's wave, but focused. Precise. A thin line of moonfire that touches the black dust and turns it to nothing. Ash upon ash. Emptiness upon emptiness.

She pulled on her yellow dress, a gift Xander gave her the last time he visited her and left for town; remembering to take the packet of fine substance with her. "This..." a man said as he inspected the substance Diane showed him. "...is dust." the man said as he picked a speck of dust out of the fine substance, making Diane laugh nervously, a little annoyed that he needed to point out the fact that her house was dirty. She hadn't the time or energy to clean due to her bouts of nausea and light headedness which kept her in bed most days.

Aerian screeched. It was so damn dark where she was it was almost impossible to see her. Even with my wolf vision I could just barely make her out. The only part of her that was easily seen were her eyes. They were glowing brightly. There were three dead wolves lying in front of her. The others were standing there snarling at her as she stood over Benny’s unmoving form. I let out a growl as more wolves descended on us. I heard someone yell at me. As I looked over my shoulder, I saw a wolf lunging towards me. Before it could land on my back a stream of the brightest light, I had ever seen hit it. The wolf flew several feet way hitting a tree. When I looked at the wolf it was burnt to a crisp.

The beast let out an irritated growl as blood spilled to the floor and swiped its own talons at Dax, just missing by a hair. Suddenly, the chamber filled with mist, a fog that swelled and leeched over the walls, not stopping until it touched the ceiling. But before Dax could move out of the way, the beast used the haze to its advantage and dove, long jagged teeth piercing into Dax's shoulder. He howled as he wrenched from its hold, clenched jaw ripping the fur and skin from his flesh.

The weapon didn't hit Katherine’s physical form, it dissolved right through the smoke, but the tip had been dipped in crushed wolfsbane from the woods. The toxic dust scattered into the air, creating a sudden, bitter barrier that forced the smoke cloud to violently snap back into a physical form. Katherine stumbled, her black eyes flashing with irritation as she brushed the gray dust off her arms. "Stupid boy." Xavier didn't stop to fight her. He lunged forward, grabbing Duncan by the shoulder of his torn coat.

“A trail of disappearances and killings since 1992. It’s not a coincidence.” We all moved toward the pile, tension rising in the room. I flipped through the first few clippings, and a chill ran down my spine as I read the headlines. “Missing: Five people over a six-month period”. “Local youth found dead under strange circumstances”. “This is it,” I murmured, as the horror of what we were facing began to set in. The skinwalker had been active, lurking in the shadows of Dust Bowl, playing a twisted game with the town and its people. And we were about to learn just who it used to be.
