How Novel Book Club Novels & Stories

Gwen's Pov I couldn’t stay in that apartment another minute. The package on the coffee table stared at me like a living accusation. Every time I glanced at it, fresh waves of humiliation crashed over me. I needed out. My Book club meeting was today. Right. It was my one safe, normal thing this week, a quiet gathering at a cute café a few blocks away where we talked about romance novels and drank overpriced lattes. No ex-husbands. No lecturers. No drama.

No need to look for another lie. "A women's book club, that's what I'm going for," I said, hoping he would believe my outlandish lie. "So let me get this straight." He sat up on his chair. "A bunch of ladies leave their homes with paperback novels, then find a fancy cafe and sit around in a circle talking about fictional characters they're in love with?" he asked, and I nodded at him, thinking this was the best approach. "Pretty much, yeah. It gets worse, but you're not supposed to know about that."

“In fact, with Gunnar and Henrik, I actually threw them into the lake on more than one occasion for trying to hit on me, both before and especially after Nigel.” Her tone indicated that she found those memories as amusing as they were exasperating. As I perused the books, I could feel Aidan’s gaze on me. The shop, much like the one downstairs, boasted an impressive selection. These were books to be enjoyed in the coffee lounge, not purchased or taken home. A smile tugged at my lips as I reached the romance novel section. So, Well Thumbed had these too. I wondered if they had hidden gems, perhaps something I hadn’t read or that Uncle Alex’s book club, Bound To Please, hadn’t discovered yet.
