I choked on a cry and pulled back my arm close to my body, allowing me to viciously jab the shifter in the eye with my small blade. The grip of his jaw loosened, and I could free myself, but not before another one appeared. My left arm was throbbing, and I could barely hold my shield up. I firmly planted my feet on the ground and waited for our bodies to collide. When it didn’t, I forced my head to the side of my shield and saw the mutt blasted away, almost by magic.
