The Pack's Dragon
They woke wrapped in a warm fur blanket and for a moment, snuggled deeper into the lushness of it before the dusty musk of dog, and the rise and fall of breath made them realize that it was not a blanket, but a living creature.
“Jules,” they whispered hope blossoming as they opened their eyes and then pushed themselves up onto their elbows.
They were not in the pod. The broken pieces were to Harry’s left, the lid disjoined, and the base pushed off its moorings. Harry could understand how that had come to be, as it was not a wolf they lay beside, but a giant, furred dragon curled into a ball within the tight space of the chamber, its wings pressed against the roof.
