"Any news from Dre and Zan?" A feminine voice echoed in a room of extreme darkness. A young man stood in the centre with his head lowered to the floor. The moonlight seeped into the room through the wrecked iron window. His side face could be seen as well as the sweat dripping from his forehead. His heart thudded greatly, because of his inability to give a pleasing answer to the question directed to him. He hesitated before raising his head to the darkness In front of him.

Everyone stood around the outside of the circle holding their candles. Magenta stepped into the center of the circle. “Members of the Moon Shadow Pack, we are gathered tonight before the Moon Goddess, Selene, to humbly ask that Princess Brenna Sutton join the ranks of Luna among us.” Then she turned toward the moon and raised her arms. “Oh, Moon Goddess, I present to you Princess Brenna Sutton as a Potential Luna.” Magenta took the candle from me and stepped away. I took my place in the center of the stones, looked up at the moon, and lifted my hands. “Oh great Moon Goddess, I, Princess Brenna Sutton, humbly present myself to become your next Luna, if you so choose.”

I give a tiny wave goodbye to the ladies below who are watching us before we’re hidden from view. Moon closes the bedroom door and shoves me against it. My “Oomph” doesn’t stop his movements. He jerks my top over my head and throws it to the floor. I inhale sharply when his scruffy face slides across my skin from my neck down to my breasts. He pushes my bra cups under my breasts, squeezes one nipple with his rough fingers, and sucks the other one into his mouth. I hold onto his arms as blood rushes to my breasts. Keondra's hands tightened in fists. How dare him!? Is the moon goddess punishing her? Because it felt like a punishment. Keondra looked up at the moon, it was a full moon. She suddenly felt like choking as she fell to the grass on one knee. Her hands quickly went to her throat as her eyes suddenly turned white, never leaving the moon. Red like tears dripped from her white eyes down her face. Her body starts to stir with an ancient, primal energy, as if the lunar cycle is awakening a deep-seated power that has long been dormant.

A black teardrop pendant hangs from her neck, glinting softly in the glow that envelops her. My heart skips a beat as realization dawns, and my knees buckle, pulling me to the floor. I fall, unable to keep myself upright as the weight of understanding crashes over me. This is the Moon Goddess. I’m on my knees, my shoulders shaking as I look up at her, tears blurring my vision. I can’t hold it back—the grief, the relief, the overwhelming feeling of finally being seen, known. Her voice is soft, filled with warmth and understanding. “Oh, honey.”

Kael replied. “Helpful explanation.” He gave her a small smile. “They tell the story of the Twenty Moons.” Luna ran her fingers across one of the glowing carvings. The moment she touched it, a powerful wave of energy rushed through her. Her vision exploded with light. Suddenly she wasn’t standing in the stone circle anymore. She was somewhere else. A massive sky stretched above her. Twenty enormous moons filled the darkness, glowing in different colors—silver, blue, violet, gold.

Even when practicing my shadow arts, “I’ve been busy…um…” It isn't working, not without shifting a bit more. I wait for her to point at me, at my hand, but instead she lifts something heavy from the floor and holds it aloft.

The tray slipped from my fingers, dropping to the floor with a crash that reverberated throughout the entire house. A woman was standing in the doorway. Pearlescent skin. White hair. Silver eyes. The Moon Goddess took a step forward and smiled.

Hopeless. I close my eyes and focus on my essence of light. I push at it hard, separating as much of it as I can from my soul. I use my mental strength to push and gather it into my palm. As I open my eyes, I smile. My palm is as bright as my moon form. I drag a massive bowl towards me before picking up a knife. Beasts of fur and two legs, you will be. Beasts of the night and howlers to the Moon, you will be
