Jacob shouted. “Again,” I replied. The robot turned slowly toward us, its fake face partially destroyed now revealing glowing mechanical parts beneath synthetic skin. Actually horrifying. Rico laughed softly while backing away toward the exit surrounded by guards. “I do hope you survive this, Alexandra,” he called casually. “Oh I’m definitely killing you tonight!” I screamed back. Then the robot charged again. This time Jacob pulled his gun too. Finally. The idiot husband joined the program. Gunfire exploded from both of us simultaneously as the machine slammed tables aside chasing directly toward me.

"Hey Mr. Volkov, thanks for taking my call. We have a minor problem," I heard the man's voice through the computer and forced my eyes to the screen. The faint hum of my laptop blended with the low growl of my wolf beneath my skin, a constant, controlled presence that reminded me I wasn’t entirely human. I took a slow breath, forcing that primal edge to still. "Thanks for calling, Jimmy. What seems to be the problem?" I nearly bit my tongue when Elena’s hands landed on my knees.

CATRIONA The tires screeched as I slid into the driver’s seat, my hands trembling as I gripped the wheel. Behind me, Jayden groaned, cradling his ribs like they were barely hanging on. His blood had dried in patches down his shirt, but I could still smell it. I shoved the key in, started the engine—and that’s when I saw them. Jerome, now fully human again, sprinted toward the car, naked, scraped, and bleeding. Behind him, Gabriel emerged from the wreckage, wild-eyed and snarling in his human skin.

Candice raised her eyebrows at her son. "Tell what?" Candice asked and crossed her arms. "She's a human, Mom," Blaze confessed. "My mate is a human," he added and slumped on the couch. There was a long silence between them. Candice sat on the opposite couch in front of her son's. "That's a shocking revelation you got there, son," Candice said. She never knew it could be possible for a human to become mate with the werewolves but seeing her son right now, and the impossible becomes realizable.

Nala licks her dry lips and breathes deeply as she knows the scent is fading slowly. Nala pulls out her conversation when she finds out Raymond doesn't like it. Human-robot interaction—checked. It’s a total breakthrough.” He turned sharply toward us. “But you two…” he paused for effect, then chuckled, “you came empty-handed.” He made a face like a child teasing his playmate. I could almost laugh at how desperate he sounded. I folded my arms, not breaking eye contact. His words didn’t sting anymore. They just sounded… sad. “You talk too much,” I muttered under my breath.

Every time we head to a new stall, her eyes only widen and her jaw drops even lower. She gasps when we stop at a stall that has a robot standing next to a woman in a white coat. It seems to be smiling and shaking hands with whoever tries to approach it. When Cora steps forward, the robot’s eyes lower and its lips stretch in that mechanical way that looks partly fake and partly… cute, I guess. I watch as Cora hesitantly waves at it. “Hi. My name is Cora. What’s your name?” The robot waves back. “Hello, Cora. It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Axion. If you have a question in mind, please feel free to ask.”
