I hollered as I shifted to hunt down the bastards. Carson quickly caught the first two and eliminated them. The stupid assholes had thought coming back together half a mile from the clearing was going to help them. We crept through the forest silently, searching for the last rogue. We scouted the forest for hours and had just picked up its scent when a frantic call echoed through the forest. We froze misstep, trying to pick it up again if it was uttered again. Moments later a low-pitched bird call followed by a rapid, stressful one. Fuck. We looked around anxiously. ‘Falcon, hunters are here. What do we do?’

I cursed, coughing as I shoved debris away. The house was starting to fill with smoke. Either they wanted to smoke us out or kill us. I don’t know which is it, but I’m fucking pissed. I liked this house, and they’ve ruined it. “Daniela… we need to get out of here.” The Hunter coughed. I could see he was trying to get to me through the smoke. He could have just run. They wanted him a lot less than they wanted me. “Hey, can you hear me, Hunter? Are you still alive?” Daniela called out as his movements seemed sluggish.

Lukas was done when two people spoke “ I don't agree with her being our Luna” they said in unison “ What your reason” I can see he is trying to control his anger “She’s human.” They spoke in unison and people began t o murmur. “She’s a hunter.” “She’s weak.”

Hunter excitedly looked ahead of them. There was a huge elk that was silently eating a bit of the fallen fruits from the tree. Its huge antlers were almost two feet long, spread out with sharp edges. “That looks like a good target,” Issac whispered crouching down. Everyone also hid behind the huge tree nearby. The elk glanced up as if sensing them. They went silent, looking at the prey. “I want to hunt it,” Hunter whispered with an excited grin. His hand was clutching onto a small dagger that they used back in the island.

His discarded body had washed up on the shores of a massive island housing several packs of werewolves, one of which belonged to the Nefario legacy. The Nefario pack, an empire of sorts, had gained enough reverence to become the namesake of a pack in its honor. Located in the eastern Himalayas of Aracord, a distant continent dominated by werewolf packs known for their frequent interpack raids, the Nefario pack was where Higgins found himself. The hunter was not dead, but his fate seemed even worse, as he was trapped on an island that once provided him love but had taken it away, along with any reason to stay.

“How are you here?” Hunter leaned back in his seat, his eyes roaming my body. Under his stare I felt greasy, dirty. They lingered on my covered wrist, and I knew he could feel his influence hovering over me. “My father and I have been working on this plan of ours for years now. We planted a few of our own people on the island. They, along with some others, helped me sneak in.” He replied coolly, “In the future, I suggest you don’t question me. It’ll make this easier for the both of us.”

My stomach dropped. "What?" He nodded. "I hired investigators to find you after you dared to run from me that morning. It took them a week to find you." Something was slamming hard against my rib cage in a really violent way. I knew what it was. My heart. "I found out who you were—Matteo Leone, a twenty three year old bisexual man, living in your father's house like a prisoner." He leaned forward slightly. "I learned everything about you—your urm... useless family, and your situation within hours of funding you."

The police had to get involved, there were two police cars out the front of the diner. Ducking under the police tape, Damien stepped into his diner, he was feared by everyone, humans, wolves and vampires alike, he was known as the Blood Alpha and that was not just because Blood is his surname. Her sent hit him sending him into a short sense of euphoria, he had finally found her his mate after, eighteen years of searching he had finally found her.

“Any luck getting information out of him?” “He says he stole nothing and refused to cooperate.” “Very well. Thank you, General Nerine. Will you be heading back to Norway?” he asked, his eyes shimmering to amber. “If you have no need for us, my team and I will report back to Valhalla Bridge. The Berserker team will be here to interrogate the target for you tomorrow.” “We are capable of doing that ourselves.” He replied, annoyed. “The order is aware of that and means no insult, but as you hired us for locating and finding the stolen item, the interrogation is part of the deal, if you don’t find the stolen item then we haven’t done our jobs and Valhalla Bridge is very thorough.”

Hunter says, "with your ideas. Do you know how many of the potential lunas I courted are still alive?" I shake my head. My throat is a tight knot as I fight back tears. "None," he whispers. "None are alive." I am lost for words. Hunter smiles. The first genuine smile I've seen on his face since we arrived. It is sinister and full of malice. ""I'm giving you one more chance," he says. "Just do as you're told and there won't be any problems. Now get the hell out of here. Now." I don't need telling twice. I run.
