The Price Of Fate
Nyra leaned slightly into my side, and I lowered my head.
“You did well,” I murmured.
She didn’t look at me immediately. Her lashes fluttered once, like she was trying not to show how much she needed to hear it.
“I didn’t want to embarrass you,” she whispered.
I huffed a soft laugh, the kind that carried a promise.
“You didn’t,” I said. “You made them listen.”
Her throat moved as she swallowed. Then the elder called the next test.
“The strength test will come before the endurance trial,” she announced. “Alpha Ronan. Alpha Keiran. Step forward.”
