“I’m definitely keeping you.” I narrowed my eyes. “Metaphorically,” she amended. “Better.” She handed me a folder. “Preliminary compound results. You were right to notice the bitter smell.” I opened it. The words blurred at first, then came into focus. Silver residue, creosote, ash, animal blood and wolfsbane trace. Alaster walked into the room, his gaze moving to where Xander previously stood and clarity washed over his expression as he turned back to Alex and Josh. “Did Xander visit?” Alex was the one to answer with a meek nod before shaking his head and snapping himself out of whatever fearful trance he’d been under. He gave Josh a little shake which led the other to follow. “What was that?” Josh asked, turning to Alaster who looked exasperated more than anything. “It seems Xander had left you in a little fear induced paralysis, it’s something that happens when prey find themselves in the presence of intense killing intent,” Alaster spoke, rubbing his temples before waving his hand.

His hawk eyes watched closely as they completed their task, never once acknowledging my presence; not that I was complaining. “Stop! Stop! What are you doing? I explicitly told you not to touch the brown crates, yet here you are lugging it in here as if it belongs to you!” Alaster spat at the lanky man before him, literally bathing the man in his saliva as he got his point across.
