Emily's Pov I usually liked messages that comes with hope , but i had already lost hope about getting a call and afterwards a text from Espanedo royal family. I nod my head , staring at the letter slowly which felt like a long lost dream "This is a good thing " I thought to myself. My hands shaking still unable to get myself together and finally placing my cellphone at the counter . Not the kind of good i thought but i had to make a sacrifice for the good of all with a good result.

“You think your name defines you? It doesn’t. Your choices do. You could’ve walked away. You could’ve left the company, the war, all of it. But you stayed. That’s not a curse. That’s character.” Jason looked down, his voice breaking. “But what if I’m too late?” “You’re not,” she said, lifting his chin. “You’re still breathing. You’re still here. That means there’s still time to win.” He searched her face, trying to believe her, trying to borrow strength from her conviction. And in her eyes, he found the flicker of something real. But I only smiled and said, “I want to do a good thing. I could choke on water and die for all we know. I want to be the one who brings the light into our home today. I throw on my coat, shoving the test stick carefully into the zip pocket, like it’s some precious artifact. My whole body is buzzing. My heart flutters like a trapped bird in my chest, not from fear this time, but from hope. It’s been so long since I’ve felt this kind of hope. On the drive home, I rehearse it over and over. "Jake, I have something to show you." Or maybe: "So, do you remember our New Year's resolution?"

Looking at my reflection in the elevator doors, I replied, "Let's leave it to fate." As the elevator doors opened, Miles and Nora were standing there, chatting intimately. The moment Miles saw me with Carter, his expression darkened instantly. "Leilani Jabs, are you so desperate for a man that you're talking about 'fate' with someone younger?" I simply smiled faintly at him, unwilling to respond. Carter cleared his throat. "Uncle Miles, you misunderstood Leilani. Don't you have someone else now anyway?" Bryan Sammie being here was exactly the comfort I didn't know I needed. It gave me hope that this alliance marriage could be turned around, and that maybe there was hope for my future after all. Josie had expressed that she wasn't ready to move past her grief, and I could respect that for her. I just prayed to the moon Goddess that when she finally decided that she was ready, she would want to move on with me, rather than anyone else. Sammie seemed confident that she would, which also gave me hope that we actually had a future together.

Laura Present day She shook herself to break free of the memory. “He didn't want you,” she whispered to herself as she put away the horse blankets. “He got rid of his phone and never even made an attempt to contact you. You don't go where you're not wanted.” She sighed and wished things were different. She wished a lot of things were different, but that didn't change them. She had to live the life she had. She remembered her mom's saying: if wishes were fishes we'd all cast nets to the sea. She didn't have time for wishes.
