he said. Ok, he was doing too much now. I thought. But it was sweet. I loved reading books most especially the fantasy ones. I loved getting out of this world and being locked up in another world where anything could be possible. I also loved the pain that came from the books, maybe because I knew it wasn’t real and just wanted to enjoy the moment.

The final touch was placing my books in the petite library space that Tom had arranged in my room, achieving a sense of calm and order that had been sorely missing. Besides, my old bed is too small for the two of us…and everything there is ridiculously pink.” Alex lay beside me, turning onto his side. “I’d love to see it. Did you write letters when you were little?” I chuckled. “Too many. To Santa. To Mother Mary…to my mother.” His hand rested gently on my stomach as I spoke. “What did you write about?”

"She was." I almost wore a sad look, "Oh-" "What about you?" He said almost immediately. "Was it the same for you?" "I'm afraid it was." I bit on my lip. "My love for reading bred about my ability to write. There wasn't any form of literature I wasn't in love with. And while I read, I learned one new thing or the other, you know? New words, new facts, new things in general and there was always this thing in me that told me I could do it as well. That I could be one of the talented writers I admired so much."

He mumbles, “Who said I’m not interesting?” I sigh, realizing my own words. I’m not that interesting. I don’t have special interests; I don’t do anything outside of school aside from fiddling with computer parts. “Can you finish reading a book she likes before the weekend?” That wasn’t actually a bad idea, except- “She reads so many books. It would be impossible to identify which one is her favorite without asking her.”

I waved Amaya and entered the library. I'm supposed to be having classes but our teacher called in sick and the principal couldn't find a substitute. Yay! I'm glad, physics was never really my best subject not that I don't pass, it's just fustrating and excruciating and soul draining. Scanning through the shelves of books for something interesting to read, I spotted William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. I hate the book but I've read the others many times and I've also never read it.

I groaned and walked into the kitchen to find Iris eating a bowl of soup. " My dad" I hand her the phone and walked out without waiting for her reaction but I was able to hear her 'hello' Now I was in the living room alone, I opened the envelope and retrieved the letter. I took my time to read it word by word. And each word pouring more acid to my veins. When I was done, I read it again. And again. And again. No words changed. Nothing disappeared from the page. I had not imagined anything too. I had read it correctly.

Sprinted to the door, I pulled it open, not expecting it to open, but it did, causing my heart to swell in joy. Ambling to the shelf, my eyes darted round the various book covers. Fiction was my favorite book to read because the best thing about reading was to be able to escape from your life, to be able to read hundreds or even thousands of other lives. Non-fiction does not have that power, it does not change you the way fiction does. To me, if you are not affected somehow, even if it is the slightest change, you are not reading the right book. I would love to think that every novel I have read has become a part of me and created who I am in a sense.
