So he took seven full minutes to tell me how he was doing. He used five minutes to talk about how much he missed me, and the other two minutes to tell about all the mundane stuff he was doing. Hearing him talk made me smile, but it also made me sad. It reminded me that we spent all those years together just to end up not in each other’s lives anymore. If I say that I don’t miss him then I would be lying. I miss him so much but we tried and it didn’t work out. I like to think that he messed up, but the truth is all he did was let me see the truth.

The truth slipped out before he could stop it — quiet, wrecked: “I miss you… God, I miss you.” It echoed in the room, unanswered. The tea cooled beside him. The night deepened. And nothing inside him cooled with it.

I miss him "I knew it!" Starr said smugly. "I mean I understand, he's hot." "Shut up!" I looked ahead and stared at nothing in particular. I missed my mom. I thought about the memories I had of her. And before I knew it, fell asleep.

I pretend not to notice, focusing on cutting my chicken into small, unnecessary pieces. “She missed you,” he says after a moment. “You know that, right?” “I figured,” I answer softly. “She tried to call a few times, but I didn’t really… know what to say.” i don't even know how she managed to get my contact information. He leans back slightly, his tone low. “You could’ve said you were okay.” I look up at him, meeting his gaze for the first time that evening. “I wasn’t,” I admit. “And I didn’t want to lie.”

" Don't leave, join me." " Already am, I missed you." " I missed you too." He leans his face closer to my neck, his breath fanning my skin. " Go back to sleep." I tell him. " How was it?" " Good." I peck his forehead. I start to close my eyes when he speaks up again. " Do you know what my mother said before she passed? " " What?" I murmur, a bit surprised that he's easily entering the topic of his mother.

“What’s going on with you?” I swallowed. “Nothing.” His touch lingered for a second longer before he sighed. “You know you can talk to me, right?” I forced a small smile. “Yeah, I know.” Jesse watched me, his expression unreadable. Then, before I could take another step, he spoke again. “I miss you,” he said quietly. My stomach twisted. The air seemed to thicken, every heartbeat louder in my ears. I wanted to turn away, but his words lingered, stubborn and impossible to ignore.

Then, almost without thinking, I whispered, “I missed you today.” He smiled, wrapping his arms tighter around me. He didn’t even open his eyes. “I know.”

But I didn't look away either, and maybe that told him everything I wasn't saying. His thumb came up and brushed gently against my cheek, like he had all the time in the world. "I missed you," he said. Then he pulled back and shut the door before I could find a single word to say, and I sat there, my pulse racing.

He says looking smug. “You were right about nothing. Nothing happened and nothing will happen.” I say loud enough so that I can hear the words too. I don’t want to get my heart broken over nothing. “Even I know that’s bull” He says looking at the road concentrating. We drive in silence from then on.

“Or don’t you miss me?” I took a deep breath. “I miss you too,” I finally admitted. “Nah,” he said. “It doesn’t sound like you do. And it would have been okay if you didn’t say anything.” He parked the car in front of my house. “Anyway, we’re here now. You can go in,” he added. “Thank you,” I replied. “But before I leave, why did you say it would have been okay if I said nothing? Do you think I’m lying about missing you?”
